it's funny when I first got my 4.0 GTS, i really noticed the extra low end power as compared to my previous 981 3.4's. But as time has gone on and the power level has normalized for me, my answer would be that the 3.4 actually had enough power to be fun. Now that I am used to the 4.0, I can't say that it actually brings me any more joy when I ring it out than the 3.4 did. They both feel like fast cars in WOT acceleration. So I guess the answer for me is that the 4.0 is more than enough.

Everyone has a different 'threshold' for enough. For me i definitely feel like the car could use around 500 whp, with some suspension upgrades, better brake pads, and more aero.

Totally agree; like you I went from a 3.4 981 to the 4.0 GTS. Both are great cars and I feel that for street use the 4.0 is all the car I need and am fully aware that it can accelerate me right into a jail cell. I think a GT4 or even a Spyder (spectacular as they are) for ME would be overkill as I do not track my cars and live in an area where top-down driving is not a year-round option. I think we are really fortunate to be able to have these cars especially as they may be the last of their type. Power is funny and has a way of, as you stated becoming normalized or even jaded. I come from a civilian aviation background and by the time I retired I realized I never flew and airplane that was fast enough.

That depends on the brakes and chassis. On my 964 I’d say it’s at the limit with its 300hp tuned motor. 500hp feels about right in my GT4RS. My previous Taycan could’ve done with another 500-1000hp more.

I go back to the notion that the only way to properly assess whether a particular car can do with more power is to drive it with all the traction and stability systems off. Otherwise, no matter how much power your engine produces, the electronic controls will still limit what gets to the ground based on available grip.
