Blah about my upcoming Spyder…
I am probably not going to get any sympathy from anyone but here I go. Almost 18 months ago I got #1 on a waiting list for a Spyder. I am supposed to get the car at the end of November. It’s been delayed a couple of times. After all the waiting and anticipation, I’m not even sure I want the car anymore. I feel blah about it. Definitely a first world problem. I also feel that I should have gotten a GT4 and that I’m only getting that car to develop a relationship with the dealer - who has been fair and square so far selling me the car at MSRP - so I can get a shot at a GT3 Touring which is really the car I want. Not sure what to expect by posting this but any opinion is welcome. Hopefully y’all don’t think I’m an entitled a hole…Thanks…

If I were in the same position I'd honestly do the same.

Spyder is sensational looking car, but impractical. 4.0 Engine is very very good, but not GT3 level. GT3 engine is simply in a different league. GT3T>anything IMO.

If I had the opportunity to get a GT3 I would just skip the Spyder unless I could afford both.
Edit: read that wrong... buying a car just to get a dealership relationship sucks, but at least if you get the Spyder you can always sell it back to them or possibly somebody else for more.

If you really want a new Porsche sport car I would take whatever you can get at this point . . . even though I am curious if your Spyder will truly show up on time (November) this time. The world around is not improving.
Get in line for a GT3 Touring and you will probably be saying the same thing 3+ years from now. . . if not longer
As far as the 'blah' goes, I do not see a lot of people complaining about their GT4/Spyder around here . . . or anywhere
Many days, the best part of my day is driving my GT4 . . . never had a 'blah' moment yet.

I personally think gt3's have becoming boring on street; total blast on track. I'm not getting either this go around but I'd take a 718 spyder over 992 gt3. I enjoyed my 981 spyder on street considering more than all the 991 gt3/rs i owned. I doubt 718/992 would change that opinion for me. Hell I may have even enjoyed 981 spyder on track more with exception I was a bit slower
I might take a spyder over anything in p lineup these days.
Gt3/rs are fun to keep up and/or destroy cars on track 2x the price bracket and hp monsters. On street, meh?

No judgment at all. Totally understand.
What is it about the Spyder (attributes wise) that most interested you in the car in the first place? The looks are better than almost anything out there. The steering is very good, and improved over the 981 by a healthy margin. The engine is also great, with the caveat that you have driven a high-revving NA motor. As already noted, not GT3 or GT4RS awesome, but really, really good. Feels stronger than the 3.4L in my previous 981s by a good amount as well.
The sound, stock anyway, leaves a lot to be desired. The stock valve operation is a real head scratcher (closed until 4k RPM, in first couple of gears, WTF??), plus the GPFs really mute the sound as well, so the Spyder is quieter than my.JCW Mini, at least if you’re under 4k RPM. Not kidding.
I have a hopeful fix on the way (Kline inconel OAPs and rear section) but that runs you about 8.5k, so it’s an expensive fix. I am really hoping that takes me from really liking the Spyder to actually loving it.

The sound is a bummer for sure out of the box. 981 takes the 718 there. That's about it.
It was a lot more playful on street. A lot less planted. The open top takes it to another level. It was my fav p-car/$ I've ever owned.

Going over the same dilemma, but I gave up on the GT3, even with the Spyder onboard. Trading the Spyder on an Artura is my question. I drove the latter properly, and it's a great sports car. The Spyder is not in the same league but the GT3 is priced similarly when added markup.
I'll wait to hold judgment once the car arrives, allegedly in one month. I haven't driven a Spyder yet, so let's see how it compares.
There's little logic when it comes to sports cars. Feeling bleh towards a 10 year old platform is not surprising. I feel that the car's worth comes to the driving and there's not much else in the future like that.

Do what everyone else does. Sell it for a profit* and use your place in line for the car you actually want. It’s the Porsche way!

Anyway, the GT4/Spyder is still 'raw' and interactive. It engages the senses and drives up the adrenaline. Nothing like them on roadways. They are not for everyone, but the '10-year-old' platform is still special, and will probably grow more special as 'technology' moves forward.

OP, I'd take the spyder in meantime and sell if you don't like it. At MSRP you're pretty safe.

In fairness it's not a meh platform at all. I've been fortunate to have a lot of miles and versions of GT products from 997-991 and eventually I guess it became "meh". But first time I turned the key, far from meh!
After all the miles, experiences; and the novelty has worn off, I'd take a spyder. Earlier on, the ott engine and wow factor of gt3 definitely was my pick between the two. In hindsight and after living with the platforms for years and miles, I'd take a spyder.
