Blah about my upcoming Spyder…

I have a 991.2 touring and a 718 Spyder 6mt.
I don’t “prefer” one over the other. They’re both incredible in their own way. IMO, for street driving, the Spyder is just as enjoyable as the GT3T given the added open top factor, especially on these beautiful fall days in the Midwest. We’re all very very lucky to have these toys!

Just for clarity, you’re buying a Spyder at MSRP to establish a relationship for a GT3T—which is what you really want? After waiting 18 months?
Go talk to your SA and drop the Spyder for a GT3T build slot.

Good luck getting a GT3T as a first time buyer. I have a GT4 on its way and was still told I basically have no shot at a GT3, let alone a GT3T. OP has a loooong way to go before he's getting a GT3T. Probably another 2-3 purchases/trade ins at a minimum.

Buying a Spyder at MSRP doesn’t even move the needle.
Just pay the ADM.

I'm right with you on spyder being one of best cars. But I find my 992 gt3 far more engaging in the street than my 981 GT4 which was an amazing car itself. The GT3 steering/handling, engine, gearing and shifter are in another league even at street speeds. Far from meh, haha. That said, I'm trying to get a spyder to pair with GT3 as I think they will complement each other well. Open top, smaller size, etc.
OP, I'd take the spyder in meantime and sell if you don't like it. At MSRP you're pretty safe.

I think that is especially true if you live in an area where your road quality is not good.
To the OP... The GT4/Spyder gets so unsettled on broken pavement or pavement that has dips and bumps in them when you start pushing it hard. It is NOT a fun or confidence inspiring experience at all. Unless you plan to replace the stock PASM with a true motorsport coil-over or live where there are smooth roads, I would skip the GT4/Spyder platform and go all in on the GT3 T. Get a Macan GTS to hold you over.
IF you DO live in an area with smooth roads, then by all means get the Spyder , put a Kline Exhaust system on it and wait for your GT3 T.

I do not understand how one can compare an open top car to a smooth top car - apples and oranges. Personally, unless a car has a drop top and manual I want nothing to do with it.

OP, in your case I think there are two important questions to your scenario. 1- Is the dealership asking you to sell them the Spyder back when/if your GT3T comes through? And if so hopefully they will offer a fair value at the time. 2- Are they asking for an ADM for the GT3T allocation if you purchase the Spyder? If there won't be an ADM for the GT3T and they don't force you to sell the car to them then I think it would be a good idea to buy the Spyder to get a chance to own a GT3T that you really want. Otherwise you may need to spend quite a lot on ADM to get a GT3T though the market seems to be calming a bit lately.
I completely get why you're turned off to the car after waiting for so long, can leave a bitter taste. That said it is a really good car and is quite fun to drive. It can keep you busy and entertained until the GT3T arrives.

Since the spyder is to establish a relationship, the inference is you don’t have any Porsches. So you’re bored with / panning a car you’ve never owned (and probably never driven) from a marque you’ve never owned, because you can’t immediately get the “car of the moment” from said marque.
Do I have that right?

Thank you for all your comments. Super thoughtful and friendly. I thought I would get roasted haha. Am I correct to assume that anyone who got a GT3T either has a long standing relationship with their dealer and bought 3+ cars from them in the past or just paid the massive ADM. Correct?

You most likely won't see a GT3 until the next redesign in quite a few years unless you pay a massive ADM. All these highly desirable cars are very hard to get an allocation for these days. Get the Spyder and enjoy it, it will do everything you want it to do while being the best looking car Porsche makes

If you do decide to get the Spyder don't worry too much about the exhaust part, GPF delete pipes bring the noise back for relatively cheap and frequently come up for sale in the FS subforum.
