This is also a never-ending topic of ‘debate’ and endless threads on Bimmerpost about the G80/82 CF buckets

CF buckets LOOK spectacular in both the G80/82 and GT4/Spyder . . . very sporty

I have CF buckets in my GT4 and had the CF buckets in my G80C

Both come with an admission price (vehicle entry/exit), the degree of which varies according to the individual . . . in other words, livability varies according to user

The CF buckets in my G80C were the best seats in which I ever sat. Period . . . and, believe it or not, even more difficult to enter/exit than the GT4 CF bucket seats. The side bolters are HUGE in the BMW CF buckets

The CF buckets in my GT4 are everything anticipated and I would not change them for another Porsche seat option. 718s are no treat entering/exiting even with 18-way seats . . . I had a 718 CGTS with 18-ways and do not feel entering/exiting is much different for the GT4 with CF buckets

As a related aside, my 718 CGTS had 18-ways with Sport Tex center upholstery, which was an upgrade over leather/alcantara and no longer available. Honestly, that Sport Tex material was absolutely amazing and I would take in a heartbeat over the center alcantara in the CF buckets.

Just my $0.02

Avera

Edit: With regard to bolster protection, I am in the camp of 'no need' . . . then again, I am an outlier in these parts as I am not much into aesthetic maintenance. I just drive the machine.

On a new order though, I think it would be buckets despite agreeing with the logic in the OP. They fit me pretty good and look the business and I would argue connect you to the car a bit better. I like the 18 way seats though, and don't really care if they're heavier than the alternatives.
I've got 18-ways in the 911 and Taycan. Buckets in the Spyder. Wouldn't change any of it, but its not very cut and dry like my own personal absolute discomfort in 14-way and 2-way. Every downside to me of the LWBS is about getting in and out, not the comfort underway. I appreciate the lightweight-ness, but they are not as light as most people think. An Antigravity battery would roughly make up weight-wise for the shift to 18-ways.

Any car of mine that is either going to spend time on the track or has a manual transmission will get ordered with LWBS, but I'd love a garage that allows 4 feet on either side of each car to I can exit or enter (semi) gracefully... I don't have that. 51% buckets, 49% 18-ways...

The forum demands you start with clear corners.

"Official Rennlist Things You Must Buy While Obsessing Over Track Your Dream"
1. Clear corners
2. Ed guards
3. Exhaust of your choice
4. Cargraphic/Soul exhaust controller
5. Tarret/TPC toe links
6. Burmester tweeters if you have Bose

I bought mine before the car arrived...one of the most essential items imho. Super nice guy and a true enthusiast. He even offered to help me install if needed.

That has always been why I disliked power seats and preferred manual over power. I can never find the right position with infinite adjustment either. Manual seats always seem to be perfect with almost no adjustment.

By some miracle I have my 18 ways set just right for me now and I am dreading my first service as 90% chance some midget moves my seat.

You pull into a tight parking spot, the door only opens a foot or two. How the %^$# are you going to get out?
It's been a good day. Your leg workout went well, but now you're sore. Time to get into our buckets. Do we just fall into the seat?
I've just bought a new car and within 400 miles I've noticed that I'm absolutely beating the hell out of the outside bolster getting in and out. I need to spend another $625 to make these seats work long term?

Oh, buckets. I love them but I'm honestly 51% bucket, 49% 18-ways.
Let's just admit these people are douches and should be labeled as such.

Nope.

Ima speculate your first problem is you apparently park in tight spots. Hell even when I trailer mine, the trailer tires make for nice toeholds.

That's what seat memory is for. I thought memory seat is part of the 18-way package.... it was at least for me.

Not available on GT4 - which makes no sense.

I have them in my GT3 and Spyder - being a man of a certain age where (an increasing number) of my "parts" are "out of warranty" and "expensive to replace" - I had to give in and install P1Designs inserts in both my LWBS otherwise my broad A$$ and (out of warranty) hip would have effectively crippled me by now.

despite the unstoppable progress of time (and their effects) I remain a staunch supporter of the LWBS and would not spec anything else in a GT car ...

I do wonder about the new OEM seat inserts and how effective/comfy they are ... but price point precludes purchase w/o first performing an A$$ test...

p.s just (try and) pick up an 18 way(*) vs. an LWBS and you will definitely feel the benefits!

(*) not before first checking with your hernia surgeon on their scheduled vacations.

I felt that LWB are kinda corny and poser-ish in a GTS, so went 18-ways, but I'm surprised how difficult it still is to get out of the car. Can't imagine what it's like with the buckets.

My daily is a lowered Mk7 Golf R, and getting out of that thing feels like stepping out of a crossover compared to the 718.

The worse part: I wouldn't be surprised if the module that stores the settings is still there, just not active on the GT4. Which makes even less sense. If it's not done for weight and/or cost savings, it's done...because people that buy GT cars don't like convenience?
