It is interesting that the PDK fanboys have to jump on every post about a manual transmission and try to point out how the PDK is better, just for reference there isn't anything being said that hasn't already been said, over and over again, is there a reason that they feel so driven to do this?

To me it is not about the maximum performance, or eking out the last seconds of track time to brag about back in the pits... it is about the choice and desire to have the MT available, that's all, no right of passage, no proof of ability, just a choice.

If Porsche doesn't offer it then each individual makes a choice and carries on, there is no victory here one way or the other.

Not picking sides here as I like both...I think Whoopsy is talking more about the choice on cars like the RSs...this is a GT4RS thread.
I get it when you put into context what RS cars are meant to be used for, even being a street car but a hard core street car that you can take to the track and do respectable times...well maybe excluding the Spyder RS but that's another topic.
For that particular use the PDK is the right tool...no doubt about it....and to be honest PDK is also nice around town and on the 4RS I can even pick my own gears to make it more fun.....no 3rd pedal is the only thing.
At the end...you choose the right tool for the job....and that's what PAG is doing on the RS.

I also was hoping for more photos.

But I only got the two. One from paint shop and one from assembly.

Mine is still in step4. Seems weird since from the assembly photos it seems production is done but it hasn’t moved to step5 yet.

Yes! San Diego port. LA delivery not PECLA.

Every time the subject has come up, the manual fans has to go hyper defensive about their choice of transmission and justify the choice. It's like one engine builder I know that still swear by his carburetors and his ability to tune it to perfection.

Porsche knows the fanaticism, one reason why they keep milking the hype with limited production specialty manual cars. But those variants are mostly garage queens that gets driven once in a blue moon.

For more 'everyday' usage, they have manual variants but they aren't the range toppers, as the manual transmission simply doesn't fit well with the performance image nor offer offering the proper performance to be the range toppers. Having the manual cars lower in the product range also fits with the 'reasoning' provided by manual fans that they aren't looking for 'fast', 'speed', 'performance' when they drive manual cars.

Ferrari has gone dual clutch for a long long time, yet no one is complaining about the lack of manuals in their cars, as those that still want to drive manuals can still find older Ferraris with manuals. Not unlike when I wanted to drive manual I just take out my Porsche Classics. Heck, there are hundreds of thousands of those around, from 911s to 964s to 993s to 996s to 997s to 991s. 997 GT3RS? Porsche only make them in manuals, one can't even find a PDK version of it. Transmissions, like the carburetor/fuel injection debate, is era specific.

At the end of the day, governments also plays a role in the demise of manuals, not just from the performance side, as manuals have worse fuel economy and car manufacturers do need to meet their target numbers. At least Porsche is still making them, unlike say Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes, etc.

It's nice to have options. No need to justify yours or try to shove it down somebody's throat.

Seems dumb to debate PDK vs Manual on a Delivery and Production thread for the GT4rs.

Porsche eliminated the variable so there is literally no debate regarding transmission choice and options on a GT4rs....

Picked mine up last week as well. Long wait with several delays but it was worth it. I’ve got a couple hundred miles on the 4RS now and the sound is wonderful. Loved every minute of it. So much so I’m second guessing an exhaust now.

I still think the Spyder is the prettiest car Porsche makes but the 4RS has so much more presence (to me). Not sure if it is the stupid big wing, obnoxious amounts of exposed carbon, the stupid expensive wheels, exposed airbox, 10 times it says RS (and I deleted two of them) or maybe something else all together. I don’t miss the Spyder now that I have the 4RS though. Is it worth the price delta between the two. Absolutely not…. but I’d still do it again. Granted, I could have lowered the delta substantially by not ordering the things I just made fun of. I wouldn’t want this car without them though.
