Almost every state has sales tax associated with a purchase of a vehicle, new or used. The only way to avoid this is to issue the transfer of title as a "gift", though thats sort of shady to do on a 6 figure car. Not sure how the guy avoided the sales tax, to me it seems like something was shady.

Nevada has upwards of 8% sales tax after everyone dips into your pocket. I just sold my recent daily driver with an 8% Philly Tax, payable by the buyer.

In CT you can gift a car but it has to be a lineal descendant (ie. not a cousin or uncle!). There is essentially no legal way to sell a car without the buyer paying sales tax. The buyer couldn't keep the car registered in a "friends" name for very long to avoid this.

Some states (don't know how many but probably less than handful) do not charge sales tax on used cars purchased from private individual. AZ, where I recently moved to, is one of those states. It was a (pleasant) shock to me to learn that.

It however does not apply to used car purchase from new or used car dealership. So I, myself, prefer to purchase from a private individual. Of course, this is exception rather than the rule. Some states don't charge car sales tax, period, like NH and Montana.

Private party sales in Nevada are not taxable. If you trade in a car to a dealer, you're taxed on the difference at +/-8%. Registration was about 1.4% of purchase price.

Buying a car from a dealer in Nevada doesn't make much sense to me, unless you're trading in a car of equal value.

Started looking at 4RS's again. Currently 70 used sitting on Auto Trader. Lots of them for months. What are they actually trading for these days?

I had an allocation I had to give up mid last year at $40K over and now that the market seems flush with them, I'm curious if ADM has softened. Thanks

Maybe a touch of softening but not much. I reached out to a few dealers and ADMs ranged from $40K to about $75K. They all did indicate there was some negotiating room though.

How does that square with stale inventory though?

Dealer I spoke with today said $30K is around where they're trading when pressed with Sept. deliveries but that's new built to spec.

I’ve been paying close attention too. Lots of cars sitting at 240 or more. I missed a used for 205 and kick myself daily.

do you need to have an existed relationship with the dealership for that ADM?

Dealers seem to treat allocations and used inventory completely differently. They know some will pay up for a used car that's ready to go without a 6-12 month wait while others will pay a premium for their own allocation so they can get it specced how they want. I have not heard of an allocation trading at under 30k recently, most seem to be around 35-45.
