100% this, I think even in 3rd gear, your valves are closed until 3k or thereabouts. They worked really hard to minimize some of the drone in the stock exhaust, and with the Cayman/GT4, they did a lot to minimize the drone, and this includes closing the valves unfortunately. Valve controller is a must, or just removing/unplugging the valves. I've seen some people lately getting crafty using mini clamps to keep the valves half open/half closed to almost tune the audio/sound.

From my experience they are very stock-like in the sound department with PSE as Mike said, but you get the performance gains of the OAP. Please DM me if interested..

I may have a video soon, I was curious and swapped my rear Valved system for the stock box with the resonated over axle pipes. What I don’t have is video of my car stock with my camera for true apples to apples.

The resonated OAPs alone may not get the exotic tone change, but they are a really good addition to a stock car. So far nothing resembling drone can be detected to my ears, sound is present and linear. I think it has less drone than stock GPFs with valves forces open.

For my volume scale:
stock GT4 : 1
resonated OAPs: 6
Soul Valved rear + resonated OAPs: 8
Soul Valved rear + open OAPs: 10

You will have the first shot it when I decide to sell! I came close to getting a Speedster but it had the buckets and I cannot live with those...one day the perfect car for me will come along!

And in regards to the valve controller,. the Softronic tune will force the valves to remain open, but otherwise one will need to get a valve controller from Soul or one of the others that make it or do the DYI hack.

@Josh_357 Where would you rank the valved rear w stock OAP on your volume number scale? I’m very curious about where you’d rank the various permutations as far as drone, in-cabin volume at high rpm and cruising, and exterior volume.
