Default 718 Spyder Third Brake Light Finish...

My car is at Emden right now waiting for the loooong trip through the Canal. So I'm chomping at the bit big-time and trying to get all my ducks in a row so I can have it exactly how I want it as quickly as possible after taking delivery. I have early PCCB pads (hopefully low dust) and a 987 Spyder logo ready to go.

When I saw the factory images of my car today I noticed something I hadn't before. The third brake light, unlike my 981 Spyder, is black and not body colored. Is that the way it is or was that something configurable that I missed? I don't see it discussed anywhere, and with the level of detail I hear coming from this forum's collective keyboards I have to say I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it. I think I prefer it to match the body, so that might be in the cards right off the bat. Anyone else done it? Can post pics on a Chalk car?

No they are all black.

Suppose you could have inquired about CXX, but that probably have been ridiculous.

It looks pretty damn easy to remove and I suspect $200 would get it painted just the way I might want it. I'm surprised that Porsche decided to make them all black, though. And even more surprised that nobody has really mentioned it that I can tell. This is a pretty particular bunch.

I think the black horizontal light bar was done in black to not detract from the double humps? At least in lighter color cars.

I have unpainted roll hoops, so the black is fine to my eyes.

Jammed on the list here has it removed, and the holes filled. I think I recall somebody that had it painted also.

I’ve certainly noticed a while ago, and even considered purchasing a primed one and have it painted body color but just haven’t gone through with it yet. Even checked Suncoast parts but did not see a primed (replacement) one.

At some point most likely will do it. But have a couple of other ideas that I may proceed ahead with before the third light.

I actually prefer the contrast the light bar now gives. The 981 rear is too monochrome / uniform for me. Of course, 100% subjective.

Seems like an easy enough fix, though, as you said.

I have called it out a few times. There are quite a few things that are MIC (Mold In Color) on the 718 that were painted or at least an option to have painted on the 981 that really stick out to my eye. The flying brake light is one of them. Intake vents, lower mirrors, front bumper spoiler center section etc. There are quite a few items like that that IMO make the 981 a more classically beautiful car (the duck tail and rear deck included) and the 718 a more aggressive, GT looking car.

I guess these are all things you can get painted or wrapped if you like.

My 981 Spyder had painted roll hoops and the color matched third brake light seemed to go well with them. My 718 Spyder will be Chalk with black roll hoops so, like someone posted above, it might blend in much better by keeping all of the painted stuff down low and the black stuff on top.

I've got to find something else to focus on. May 13th is a long way off.

Tried to find this user, are there any pictures of the car that had this removed and the holes filled? I think that would look killer. Would love to see it and consider it for my car.

Hmmm, looks great, just not sure if it'd be worth the likely significant expense to delete the piece, plug, and paint the holes.

I like the black bar…lots of painted sheetmetal on those streamliners already
