Not really...at least if the tunes weren't optimized to begin with. Per earlier interviews with Mitch, tuning the 4.5 was "hard". They tuned for safety...and based on Matt's comments about changes to the exhaust smoke after this tune, they were probably running it rich. Had to do the same to my built Corrado motor, when tune couldn't be optimized due to an unknown at the time bad dizzy cap. Unfortunately, the head blew a cooling jacket before I could get it retuned.

I live and drive in India. Fuel quality is at an average 91/93 Octane. I have the 2020 Manual GT4 with the BMC filters, BC Fabs headers, under axle pipes, and incolnel valved exhaust with M Engg tune. i am considering upgrading to 4.5L motor. Currently with the stock motor (and the current set up) i get about 15 mpg to 17mpg, depending upon my driving habit. I have a dilemma. Since the fuel stations are quite spaced out here in my part of the world, and since i drive on freeways etc, i wanted to know what is the fuel efficiency of the 4.5L motor. Also is it possible to install a SYVECS ECU for accommodating different tunes for different fuel quality?

Worth noting Rick builds engines for race and street, safe is good. The IAT on the boxster / cayman can get real hot cause mid-engine with no venting and long intake path not to mention the front side rads heating air on the way into the side intakes. Not a big deal for a street car but a problem for race cars in traffic, that's why Porsche added the higher side window intakes on the 718 Clubsport evo and later the rs models, cooler IATs. A little more fueling and octane can help a lot for longevity and maintaining timing (power) when things are race car hot.

Getting my Deman Motor
My 981 GT4 3.8 arrived at Rick's 2 weeks ago. He will be dropping the motor this week. Then he and I will develop a plan. I track the car, but no racing. I want a 'safe' build. The OEM motor has failed on me twice. So I'm nervous about failures. I can't afford anymore rebuilds.
Last year at Laguna, the day before the Variocam failed.
