When my warranty runs out and I have verified there is no way in HE double hockey sticks I can get a spyder rs…I might look up DeMan. I’d be more likely just to get the gear change, though. 400 ponies is already more than enough for hellafun in a car the size of a spyder.

The DeMan car is seriously cool and I’m sure the 10% gear change is slightly noticeable (I have never really minded the current gearing as it’s very similar to my old 997 RS) but I feel like it sort takes away from the purpose of the GT4.

The last thing I think about when driving the GT4 on some fun twisty roads is “hey you know what I need? another 100hp…” or that I need to out perform a GT3 RS.

But if you were set on building the ultimate track weapon, I could see a serious case being made for the 4.5.

I think the bottomline is just being super honest with ourselves about how these cars will get used and then proceed accordingly. It’s easy to get wrapped up in track based reviews for cars when some of us see maybe one or two track days a year and then get to suffer with that same car for the rest of year on public roads.

^ I’ve made this mistake more times than I care to admit lol

Plus you are stuck carrying around octane booster for every fill-up not to mention killing your resale potential.

TBH, I have no desire for DeMan. I want that 9k LeMans howl. The extra 100 hp is almost incidental. I am assuming there is an exhaust mod in my future to try to more accurately replicate it.

Fortunately for us (and as long as I have been driving) we have had 94 octane fuel at every Chevron...

You can test them both back to back at PEC LA or Atlanta.

If you enjoy the top down on the spyder, the gt3 really isn’t a good replacement. It’s even more overkill for public streets, and it completely lacks whatever drove you to get a spyder instead of a gt4. I get the 9000rpm thing, and the gt3 is definitely more beastly. But the spyder goes to 8200rpm. For $100k to $150k in switching costs, I’d be tempted to just redline the spyder more and laugh at the ADM.

You gotta do you though.

I got in ahead of the spyder ADM fest; MSRP for me. I got that going for me, which is nice. (On the downside, that is how long I have been waiting - lol)

I agree, 9000 RPM is nice but IMHO not really worth the entry cost... it would be interesting to calculate how many milliseconds it takes for the GT3 engine to go from 8000 to 9000 RPM when flat out, then figure out how much you pay for that split second of enjoyment!

For me this is where the DeMan engine would be way more cost effective.

I really love my GT3 and that tingling sound between 7k and 9k is exhilarating! The steering is very compliant and precise and the grip is fantastic… It’s just too much car for the road, impossible to realize it’s full potential.

The Spyder will play a very different role for me. It’s the weekender, the vehicle I want to drive in the backroads and enjoy with my wife… a “Porsche GT” with accessible performance relative to the GT3… plus it’s a beauty to look at.

Per DeMan website, new gears still go to 75 in second; better, but still sounds tall. At one point they were selling 3-5, and 2nd was an additional add-on. Maybe it’s one set now. It sounds like it was developed for their 4.5 setup.
4.5L conversion for the 718: $32,500
Lightweight Flywheel and clutch: $2850
DeMan 2-5 regearing: $8750

I have both. 991.2 GT3 (PDK) and 718 Spyder (MT).

They are such different cars and are used for different purposes. The GT3, dressed in black, is loud, angry and just wants to go break neck speeds. I have a difficult time driving the car in moderation. I have the Dundon full exhaust and all I want to do is bang the gears. When it shifts, fuel vapor collects in the catalytic converters and makes this huge bang/crack on shifts over 5k rpm. It literally sounds like a 7.62mm bolt action rifle. People in other cars, pedestrians, dogs, etc duck for cover, because they dont know what that noise is. It's awesome!!! The GT3 is the perfect hooligan car.

The Spyder (dressed in GT Silver) is some what a throw back in time for me. A sporty gentleman's car if you will. Classic gorgeous lines and top down sensations to enjoy my surroundings and nature. Super quick when you want it to be, grips the canyon curves as hard as the GT3, a pure classic motoring experience for the love of driving.

Easy answer is to get both. They are that different.

Practical answer, when given a choice, I find myself grabbing the keys to the Spyder more than the GT3.

And Shell now had 93 since late 2021. I’ve always been a fan of their gas.

So well said...
Spyder feels like it fits like a glove, immediate response, tight, just lovely...
GT3 feels much bigger, different feel altogether

i am also starting to really like the (laufkultur) torque and power delivery of the the 718 4.0L engine, even its stock sound is growing on me...

I love the spyder and it's my current daily driver, snow, ice and whatever... it's the perfect sports car and 8k is enough for a daily

you have to scratch that GT3 itch but that's a separate issue, different horses for different courses

watch this if you haven't yet:
And fix will be $60k instead of $260

stretching for a car is a bad move, worse than that is stretching for a $260k 992gt3
