Default Spyder waiter lust for a GT3

A 200-mile shark 992 MT gt3 recently sold SAME DAY it was turned in at my local dealer for $260k. This would be a fair stretch for me, but I could have done it. All those YT videos raving about the gt3, hearing that engine scream, the prices they are commanding, an uncertain future for ICE cars, not to mention NA...

My SA texted me the news the moment it showed up. I had actually seen it being delivered a few months before. I blew it off, but it was working on me in the background all day. I made the mistake of watching the Car Magazine GT3 video again, which is pure shifting, revving, heel-n-toeing, exhaust howl ****.

At this point, the spyder is old news, no new review content coming out to keep me distracted. It will absolutely be an amazing car, it is a drop top, and it is HALF THE PRICE of that $260k gt3. I remember a previous thread saying the spyder is 90%+ as good an experience as the gt3.

But 9k. That howl. 503HP. Jay Leno (and 90% of the internet) calling it the perfect car.

I can (and should) wait until June for my spyder...right? (IF they make a spyder rs with a MT, I know I will never get within a country mile of an allocation, so there's that)

PS In the meantime, to help keep me distracted, what is people's favorite spyder review video? There's a good chance I have seen it, but re-watching is all I have these days (unless I want to watch gt3 content)

The GT3 very ugly and is bigger though. The best things about it to me are double wishbone. Then the fact it still has a manual, 9k rpm, engine noise, and it's not purposely handicapped performancewise.

It's a much better track car, but is it a better street car? I think that's debatable. So when 'oooh shiny new thing!' wears off it's mainly comparing the pros of better engine and sound vs better looks and better size for the street.

I’m in a similar place… really enjoy my Spyder, but I keep wondering what an extra 1000rpm would feel like.

Very tempted to line up for a GT4RS and then figure out how to get rid of the roof and spoiler. Surely someone can do that?

Two ways to look at. You can use all of the GT4/Spyder and you’re ready to move up or you just want the GT3. Both work. I couldn’t use all of any of my previous GT3s but I could use more of my 981 GT4. Hence going back to the new GT4.

I own a 981 Spyder and can’t imagine having any more fun on public roads with a GT3. As a matter of fact, I often choose to drive my 89 Carrera over the Spyder since I enjoy taking the engine to redline in more gears than is possible on public streets in the Spyder. Having said that, if prices come down on GT cars some day, I may be highly tempted to trade my Cayman S track car for a GT3. So my point is, if just a street car, stay with the Spyder. My 981 Spyder is simply epic in so manly respects, especially that amazing engine sound with the sports exhaust on top down rides.

I love the GT3. The 991.2 a bit more than the 992, but I’m still a fan of the 992.

As a track car, I say the GT4 gets you 90% of the fun for half the money. For the best street car / canyon carver, nothing in the Porsche lineup can touch the ROI of the Spyder. As a fan of open top cars, there is no comparison. The Spyder is so much fun to drive, fast or slow, and is very capable on the track. It also looks way better than anything out there.

For once in my life, I’m drawn to the “cheaper” option without feeling like I’m sacrificing anything. I would love to add a GT3, but I wouldn’t trade my Spyder for one.

Jeff

I just want the engine. It would have been nice to have that intake sound even if they detuned it 100 hp

I definitely agree the spyder is the best looking P-car. The GT3 is aggressive looking and has presence, but the spyder is gorgeous.

But that (gt3) engine... Daddy want.

yeah, that mighty engine...
I guess that's why many of us are lusting for "the" RS Spyder. Not seeing any prototype yet, hopefully soon and we will be able to close ICE era with the best engine in the most beautiful form-factor.

Once you drive the GT3 and experience the 9k redline, you will not care about your GT4/Spyder. That's what happened to me, I thought my GT4 was enough but after driving it and experiencing that engine I now must have a 991.2 GT3/RS or 992 GT3. Currently in the market hoping to find something decent.

There is a gentleman here who owns a bunch of cars. Two 918 Spyders with two of everything that allows you to buy - GT2RS, GT3RS, GT3, Speedster, etc. Plus McLarens, Ferraris, etc. Even the new SF90 Spider.

His favorite street car to drive is the 718 Boxster Spyder. Last I knew he had four of those. He told me he may not even keep his 992 GT3.
Your wait will be rewarded.
