I haven’t taken it out for any real spirited drives with the winter setup. The lighter BBS wheels do seem to handle the bumps of our crappy Seattle roads better given the suspension isn’t working as hard. It’s a marginal difference, not night and day.

Jeff,

I was going through some old pictures and thought you'd appreciate the 918 Spyder I saw in the Honolulu dealership back in 2015.

That’s the big brother to my Spyder 😂 I can’t imagine trying to drive that on any of the roads in Hawaii but it would be fun to try!!

LOL! That was my first thought when I saw "Honolulu dealership" mentioned. Not a lot of traffic-free open roads in Hawaii to really appreciate a car like that. That said, I'd still enjoy driving it much as I do my baby brother Spyder!

You'd get lots of seat time just getting out of downtown! ;-)

My wife and I escaped to a nearby romantic lodge for a few days while the in-laws watched the kids. We decided to spend all day Saturday on a famous local drive, the Cascade Loop. This was a modified loop given our starting point but it still meant doing about 450 miles in a single day of driving.

The Spyder does not disappoint! Enough practicality to take for a long weekend and even after 11 hours door to door, I didn’t feel fatigued. The perfect drivers car imho.

We started in the mountains top down on a cold morning. The heated seats and strong heat made it comfy. We went from 40s to 90s in the lower altitude. Bright sunshine to several surprise rain showers. At speed with the windows up, we didn’t get wet although I did have to put the top up for about 30 minutes in a very heavy rain.

The car is comfortable on the boring highway sections and handles the curvy mountain roads at speed with ease. It looks great, sounds great, always draws a positive reaction from folks we meet along the way and has all the power I could ever ask for. I pulled into the garage 11 hours after starting out in the morning and I could have gotten back in the car to do it again!

You know you married well when you ask your wife if they want to drive 11 hours in a sports car around a 450 mile circle and they just start packing snacks and planning meal stops ❤️

We enjoyed a few night at Salish Lodge. If you ever have the chance you should check it out:

Top down, sun shining, and all smiles!

One of several gas/snack/bathroom breaks.

It got really wet going across the northern mountain pass and we had to put the top up briefly. We went through several smaller showers too down with no issues.

Our modified Cascade Loop.

I haven't been as active on the forum but I'm still loving the Spyder. It's fun to see the excitement around the Spyder RS and I just wish they would keep making both cars so more people could buy them!

Here are some recent shots, mostly weekend cars and coffee stuff since I've been traveling for work so much lately. I need another long drive in this car!

Last photo with the black wheels before my BBS FI-Rs go on tomorrow. I just never liked the black.

Early cars and coffee in Pioneer Square.

It makes the perfect Santa's Sleigh! 🛷

Always in good company at Lake Washington Cars and Coffee.

Hey Jeff, I am confused, I thought that you sold your Spyder to make way (fund?) a different car project? Glad to see that you kept it!

There is still space at the VIR retreat in May on the island up in Courteny if you want to go for that drive!

I did jump head first into a big project car / restoration, but I kept the Spyder. This is still driving nirvana as far as I'm concerned.

I'm in the middle of a ~3 year restoration of a first year 1975 930 that I hope to have on the road sometime in 2025. Learning a ton, connecting with all the experts and having fun with the process. Sourcing rare parts scratches the itch of constantly researching my next car 😂

I picked up a 2024 Cayenne S and I'm loving the twin-turbo V8 as a daily driver and family hauler.

The Spyder may be my first actual keeper. In the past keeper meant at least 3 years, but I can see long term ownership with this one!

Jeff
