Going out to the far end of a limb here. I think it possible but not probable Porsche would do it but they could make a track only tech equipment dealer order part made of high strength steel. It would not store in the car, it would not fold. It would use the same attachment mechanism: to the windshield header, the roll over hoops behind the seats, and the cable with clamps to tighten as the fabric 2-piece Spyder RS roof. I doubt they would ever make it.

I wonder if the reveal is still a long way out…as in not Nov. I’m not as in touch with the production flow of Porsche in general as I was while waiting, but things still seem messed up due to parts shortages. If they can’t build / deliver the 4RS (at least state side yet), how are they going to add in an SRS? They don’t even have PCCBs for tourings, right? Obviously that is an optional part, but I’m sure they don’t want to give up that profit, and would rather not force folks to take a compromised build. But then the ICE 718 window is closing. Maybe it’s “now” or never.

If it ends up like the Gen 1 Weather Protector it’ll be plastic like the last one so it’s foldable.
3 Generations of plastic portals, why change?

The other issue, which is much worse, is the current lack of chips and other parts, such as PCCBs. I guess we can only hope that supply chains get up and running in 2023 again.
Bottom line, i could also imagine that the official presentation of the 718 Spyder R(S) gets shifted into 2023 with actual production starting after the summer 2023 then as a 2024 model.
If i would get an allocation for a 718 Spyder R(S), i'd definitely want this with PCCB. They are just awesome brakes.

You are making valid points. As regards production capacity itself, Porsche is making use of overflow capacities at Volkswagen in Osnabrück (Germany) starting mid 2023. This info is coming from official press releases and explicitly refers to 718s being produced at Volkswagen. I would expect that it's rather the more common 718 models that will be "outsourced". However, this might help in making room with 718 production at the main factory in Zuffenhausen.

Moving more 718s off of Zuff line allows more 992s to be produced as well as the myriad of special 718s.
Timing wise, all has to happen before the EV follow on which will be a MY25 model…so hope it mirrors GT4RS. Fall reveal, late spring production.

Porsche has been using Osnabrucke for 718 Cayman, including GT4, for years. VIN has an K instead of S.

However, we agree on the expectation that this provides more capacity in Zuffenhausen to produce special 718s.
Not sure though that it has to happen before the EVs follow. In major German motoring press it was mentioned that production of EV and ICE 718s will be parallel for some time. I think that makes sense as not all markets want and/or are equipped for EVs right away.
Time will tell...
