I never owned the 982 GT4 but did drive manual version of it that a friend had. More torque and less gear shifting needed. Clutch is as light as 992 GT3- which is a too light for my tastes so this takes some of the rawness out of the drive.
Yup those are some of the main reasons I still have my 981 GT4 for almost 4 years but sold my 718 Spyder after 6months. 981 GT4 just feels more raw/special than the 718. 4RS though is amazing and brings that rawness that I enjoy with the 981 GT4.

Only 5000 of the OG GT4 made- I dare say that in 10 years it will be trading overs the 718GT4
That 3.8L engine was a peach and remains so reliable and cheap to service.

I am just showing my age.... so back to reality and moving onwards and sideways.

I have been going back and forth to trade my 981 or my 718 GT4 in the 4rs once it arrives.

.
What about the 987 Spyder, a car with focus on weight reduction and 'RennSpaß'....
Only 1667 of these OG Spyders where made... as people found the roof to complicated

PS: still in my garage, with the 981 Spyder long gone

I think we should keep in mind not all forum members are hot shoe drivers. The higher ceiling of capability on a new GT4 and more effortless speed could be seen as more boring on the street compared with older less capable cars with more fun sensory elements to them (aka the fizz as some call it). I will say I briefly drove my stock 996 Turbo X50 earlier today and the gear shifter felt like stirring soup compared to the GT4. But also I've read multiple long standing forum members remark how their 987.2 Cayman Rs were more interesting road cars than their GT4s they upgraded to.

What are the specs of each and what is your RS going to look like? I have to assume your 718 is also a manual otherwise it would be a no-brainer. My gut instinct is to say that you should keep the two cars which are more different from one another which means 981 and 4RS. Especially if the 981 cars are more raw like some say. Unless you actually like the refinement of the 718 better as a foil for the RS. May also depend what other cars are in the stable beyond these.

THANK YOU. I get the joke, but for real, why aren't more people talking about this ducktail? It's such a big deal on other models, so rare as well, and now we have this on essentially the last Boxster ever.

Is it because there are other features that are more noteworthy? Or is it because the ducktail usually works better with a fixed roof (i.e. Carrera/Cayman)?

Looks just like the standard Spyder ducktail spoiler, only slightly larger and fixed. People probably aren't talking about it because it's really not a big deal.

Because this isn’t the air cooled 911 board?

this is exactly why I love driving my 993. I did an exhaust mod, shifter that has a bolt action rifle feel, and recaro sport seats. This car is a dream to drive. Very often after spirited acceleration I’ll look at my speed expecting to be at 80, and I’m going 50. My 981 Spyder on the other hand, wants go to jail speeds to give me that same thrill. Still love the Spyder but the 993 is the one I choose to drive most days.

it’s hard to beat air cooled Porsches of any vintage for fun at reasonable speeds; it truly is. 981 spyder for me was a good “in between” AC and 3rs for fun on streets. 993 is unbelievable balance of “modern” and fun at moderate speeds. My 65 911 is an antique but 50mph feels like 150. I’d go w/out a modern p-GT car before I would a p-AC.

We have a manual Cayman R and drove it a lot, more than 100 track days. When we got a chance to get a 981 GT4, we bought it thinking that it would replace the Cayman R. But comparing the cars back to back, they have a different feel, so we wound up keeping both.

The Cayman R feels lighter, simpler, and purer - it's a drivers car which is very well suited for fun road driving. Now that we're not tracking it, I wish I had the Spyder version.

The GT4 feels bigger, heavier, but also more capable, and has a better shifter feel, sounds better, and generally feels like the superior GT car that it is. The GT4 doesn't really feel faster than the Cayman R in acceleration because the GT4 gearing sucks for the road (3rd gear is much too long), though the gearing is fine for the track.
