The 718 Spyder RS Discussion Thread
#3646
Was sitting on a patio enjoying dinner, with my spyder parked across the parking lot. Couldn’t take my eyes off of it. Such a gorgeous car! To make an age appropriate comparison to a beautiful female…Raquel Welch. Would Raquel be improved with tats (naca ducts and fender vents) and a “racier” nature? lol

I think it was a decision, not engineering constraints, there are manual transmissions connected to GT3 engines...

One thing AP has mentioned that DOES have my attention is how much more eager and playful this “lighter” SRS is. I don’t know how much of that is marketing sales talk, but that would be a pretty significant plus. It might make me feel compelled to get a Ti exhaust and lightweight battery (and $$$$ mag wheels?) to really embrace this nature.
Lightness = Goodness, for sure (as we all know)

Anyway, the SRS isn't bad but after a few mods on my Spyder I think it comes in a little better than the lightest 'factory SRS'... AP said 1410kg, leave to top out 1402kg, and radio delete (not possible in North America) removes another 6KG.
This is with the forged aluminum wheels (not magnesium), Akra Titanium link pipes, and JCR Titanium Silenced Race Pipe and every else in the car including about 1/2 tank of gas. (6MT, LWBS and PCCB as pictured)

Also did you notice the standard fuel tank on the SRS is 10l smaller that the regular Spyder 54l (40.5kg) as opposed to 64l (48kg) and again it depends on what you accept as being in the car.
I would not be throwing the roof out when I start a trip that leaves the city I live in, I may hit weather and I may need to actually lock the car, so the roof stays in and the weight is 1410kg. If I fill my Spyder gas tank with up that remaining 1/2 tank with gas, and add 24kg bringing my Spyder to... 1411kg

I have already watched them multiple times, and if by 'proof', this is spoken words that it comes with the PDK... then you do realize that this is a marketing launch advertisements, not a technical deep dive explaining the design choices based on engineering?
What I am saying is Porsche has said things and after a bit more time and engineering reversed a stand and brought out the options that was previously not possible to do, remember?
In this case they have the MT in the Speedster with the same engine, it can be done in the 718, but will they?

I remember AP saying noway the Cayman/Boxter
can have a 911 GT3 engine cause it should be rotated to be hosted in a mid engine car,
whilst the local conspiracy club in RL said impossible only because it would make a Cayman to be faster than a GT3...
both wrong and now they did the GT3 engine engineering to fit inside the 718
i wonder engineering wise if shorter mid engine space would make the GT3 manual not doable within the 718

Well maybe they are still bringing out a 718R. Atleast that is how I see it in this article.
