"Yeah, sure mate"
"What's this 3rd pedal ?"
"So that's the clutch and you use it to ..."
"Never mind"

A good Nikon or Leica with a fast lens cost a pretty penny back in the day, often as much as a few month's salary. Someone who is not aware of basics like not touching lenses with fingers or spilling french fries and coke on it can lead to hours and hours to clean it up and/or get the shutter to work right again. There was always the risk of theft too if your friend didn't take necessary cautions. Which, in turn, can lead to the end of the frienship. From what little I remember of the 70s --- more people were willing to loan out their spouse than their Leica.

Interesting that Porsche allows to activate launch control with the wheel turned like that. I thought I read somewhere that BMW launch control cannot be activated without the wheel being aimed straight, along with a few other criteria‘s.

I guess I'm weird because I let anyone courageous enough to ask drive my Porsche's. 37 years ago when I was 20, my uncle let me take out his 911 for a spin by myself. Never forgot that. Not just the drive, but the fact that he placed that much trust in me. Shortly before he died, I told him that I fondly remember the day he let me drive his 911, and what a great life experience and memory that was for me. He had bad dementia by then and couldn't talk, but that drew a smile from him. I recently let my 18 year old nephew take my Spyder for a spin. I figure it's best to pay it forward. No regrets, but I haven't been burned yet. I figure the risk of something bad happening is worth the reward of creating a memorable life experience in a young person, and it is also rewarding for me to be able to make it happen. Also, it sure makes it easy to be the "cool uncle".

I've let my family members drive it. I did give the keys to my dad a while ago to take it wherever. He had a 911T before getting married and selling it for a house. Passed up on a salvaged 930 back then he regretted not buying. And we had a 928 S in the past (the four speed auto).
Also let my brother drive it while I was in it, but he usually drives slowly.

My nephew worked valet for Valley Fair Mall a few years ago so I heard all the inside stories about what those kids did with nice cars. Will NEVER EVER hand over my keys to a valet again.
