Just discovered this page. Had been looking at the older 981 page. However, neither page 1 seems to have been updated since early 2021. Is that correct?
I was slightly caught out by the rear end instability coming into T1 which meant I butchered the corner and was 3/10ths down straight away. Mistake at T7 as well cost some time. I think the car had an 2:04 in it but I couldn't quite put it together. This was lap 7 hence the tires crying a bit, they had about 12 HC at this point. Anyway I'll stop making excuses here is the lap

Was at sonoma this past week with some Hoosier R7s on the car for the first time. Did a 1:45.6. can probably go a lot faster on a cooler day and getting used to the fact that I'm carrying much more speed and have to move up my braking zones. Was nice to be able to stay in the game with a 1.1 3RS
Awesome lap. I can't break 2:07 with a faster car, you're using more of the track and just much smoother.
Thank you! 2:07 is already a very solid time, nice work. The GT4 really rewards smoothness as the suspension is quite soft, especially on high compression G tracks like WGI.
I have found studying videos helps a lot, then I visualize what I want to try. The line I am taking here is in my experience is optimum, but there are other options particularly through 5,6, and 7. Post a video of your best lap and folks may be able to give pointers. WGI is such a fast, flowing, but also high risk circuit that a lot of it is just having the confidence in the car to really lean into it. One area where you can gain a lot of time (but also takes the aforementioned confidence) is being flat on throttle from the exit of 1 to the crest at 3. A slight breathe on the throttle there before going back to flat as you straighten up into 4. I am at 147-148 at the brake zone into 5, a 718 should be pushing 150. Turn 7 is another where its easy to turn in too early, pickup a lot of understeer and have to struggle out on power. Try staying out wide left a big longer using the hill and trail braking right into the late apex to retain momentum (although I over trail this lap hence the oversteer). Similarly you should be brushing the brakes going into 11 and using every inch of track out, the caveat being there is a wall right there but its a high value corner given it leads right onto the straight. If you get a chance do a track walk, a lot of turns have a ton of camber you don't really see when driving. WGI is such a buzz to drive I never get tired of it.
Sorry! Didn't see this until now. Yes it is an Apex pro. It's the 1st gen, I got a good deal on a used one.
I really like it. It's easy to catch out of the corner of my eye on track and I really like having it in my recorded video when I'm reviewing. Helps me believe there's more grip out there.

No problem!
I was able to try one out at ECR earlier this year but had an issue with calibration. Really liked the extra data provided and would be great to see along side OBDII info.

Here it is, along with my racing driver excuses:
1. I had to pass one car in the outer loop, or I'd have cracked a 2:06 for sure (normally can take it 87mph)
2. It's my first year with the car
I got nothing else. Car is set up how I like, tires are fresh Goodyear SC3, and temps were cool.
I watched your lap, very nice. Good lines, nice and aggressive on the brakes and not afraid to get back on throttle. You will be able to beat your current time significantly.
Here's a few things you can try. Bear in mind I am not a coach, just some track day punter who likes going fast
T1 - Looks good, try threshold braking a bit later with a light trail into the apex at 1. You can aggressively turn in harder as you hit the inside camber at to be back on throttle as you cross the inside curb.
T2 - You should be flat from T1 through T2, the compression will hold you in
T3 - Light breathe as you turn, as soon as the wheel is straightening up you can be on throttle. Get on the throttle earlier.
Bus stop - You are hitting 147 at the brake zone into bus stop, that's the same as my lap. You should be at 150+. Don't go so wide - take all of curb 1, most of curb 2, nibble curb 3, right over curb 4.
T5 - You hit traffic, but you managed it well from there
T6 - Brake later and deeper, trail in and get back to WOT earlier. There is a lot of camber to catch on the inside, it will hold you in.
T7 - Turn in later, use the hill and trail into a late apex. I am off the brakes straight to WOT. If you are having to use maintenance throttle you turned in too early.
T8 - Looks good, nice trail in to WOT
T9 - Try turning in a bit later, rotate the car on the brakes so you can get back to WOT earlier
T10 - You over slowed, then got back on throttle early
T11 - You over braked and unsettled the car, brush the brakes and trail in
Overall solid lap, you clearly have the confidence to go fast
Here is an example of a pro driver lap, he's taking slightly different lines which you could also try. Lap starts at 21:00
