I don't know where the measurements originally came from or where they measured from, but it sounds like the 'mudflap' would be the lowest point so that's what I assume they used. I thought there was a similar 'mudflap' just ahead of the front wheel; I'd expect that to have the same ground clearance is the rear one. If I recall correctly, they serve some purpose for aero in the rain...maybe they blow some of the water out of the way at higher speeds so the tires don't have to pump as much when it rains. Either way, those were the lowest point on my 997.2, and they'd scrape on driveways if I didn't take them slowly at an angle. Never seemed to cause them any damage.

Here’s a quote from Motor Trend.
The GTS comes standard with the Sport Chrono package and the PASM sport suspension, which drops the ride height 20mm and adds stiffer springs and shocks, a stiffer rear anti-roll bar, and more aggressive camber settings both front and rear.
The standard Cayman is a sweet, beautifully balanced car, but as we discovered while lapping a sport suspension-equipped GTS in company with a GTS fitted with the standard PASM setup (a no-cost option) around Portugal's serpentine Estoril circuit, the sport suspension endows it with more grip and precision.
Especially mid-corner, where the car with the standard suspension simply couldn't hang with the sport suspension version, the front end pushing wide if you got on the power too soon. Porsche says it offers the standard suspension as an option on the GTS for those who want a little more comfort. It needn't bother: The sport suspension proved anything but harsh and noisy, even on some of Portugal's rougher back roads. And it's more than acceptable in terms of ride quality around town.

So I guess one needs to decide if they will be lapping around the track at Estoril.......or (as in my case) driving the torn up and destroyed roads of NY State.
Last week I finished putting 600 miles of break in on my standard PASM Boxster GTS 4.0 before the 20" of snow came down on Monday. Snow and single digit temperatures which will buckle and destroy our already destroyed roads. I am extremely happy with my standard PASM choice as our roads will never "quite" equal those of Estoril or even those rougher back roads of Portugal!

I honestly don't think you can go wrong with either GTS suspension option (PASM or the 10mm lower Sport PASM). And I'll bet that 99% of people (myself included) couldn't tell the difference behind the wheel - even at the track. So for most I suspect it's mostly a cosmetic thing, where there's slightly less of a gap in the wheel well with Sport PASM.
One advantage for PASM that hasn't been mentioned here is entry and exit from the car: that 10mm extra height makes it a tad bit easier to get in and out of the car. My wife and co-pilot might like that option, but I'm not telling her about it!

I do not believe the stock 718 ride height is available on the GTS 4.0. You have 2 options ordering the GTS 4.0:
A 20MM lower ride height compared to the standard 718 (SPASM) OR
A 10MM lower ride height compared to the standard 718 (PASM)
So If you click the option box you have a 10MM lower ride height than a standard 718 but also a 10MM HIGHER ride height compared to the default GTS 4.0 which is 20MM lower than the standard 718
I opted for the 10MM higher height on mine and am very pleased with the ride quality.
Some do not like the 10MM option as they feel the wheel/fender lip distance looks a bit too large, I think it looks fine.

Is the suspension on the GTS 4.0 the same that's on the GTS 2.5? As the chances of getting to drive the 4.0 before ordering are practically nil I'm wondering if test driving a used GTS 2.5 would be a direct comparison.

GTS 4.0 is the reverse. It has spasm as base and pasm as the option.

Anyone know if you can delete PASM from the configuration so that the height is the same as a base Cayman? I have a very steep driveway and lowering the height by even 10mm is a problem.

hopefully this picture helps so you can see the difference.
White GTS has SPASM 20mm drop and Gentian blue has PASM which raises it by 10mm. Wheel gap is noticeable but on the flip side I don’t scrape 😁. The owner of the white GTS has learn to go slow over all speed bumps, but it looks good with that drop.
