Got it. Since most often in nature there's a tradeoff between performance and longevity (not only with tires!), perhaps the Pirellis are superior to the Michelins for the first X% of the tread's life. Just thinking out loud. Not looking for a debate I assure you (everyone!)

Yes, I fully agree. I have Pirelli on my Macan 2023 and they are just perfect.

Michelin PS4S is indeed the golden ticket and it is easy to tell how true this is when many Dealers get comments about wanting to switch tires or if there is any way to designate the Michelins. I simply made sure I did not miss Church for the 4 month build/delivery status of my Cayman GTS and my prayers were answered with 4 beautiful little Michelin air filled donuts, ha!!
