Yep, all good and known. Makes it all the worse that he doesn't even drive a car because of what he heard. I find that really pathetic.

Alright, are you suggesting that the turbo 2.5 GTS may potentially be a better Boxster than the NA 4.0?

I've found the same thing with a few of his reviews. Really stupid comments that show he really didn't spend enough time with the car or really drive it hard. Strange, because he seems like a real car guy through and through, and super knowledgeable.

It could be. I haven't driven them both so I know better than to make any claim about them as I see it. He wouldn't know and shouldn't make the statement he did but he did anyway. That's what I find irritating.

I think you should just try and relax a bit- it’s not the end of the world either way.

In THEORY I think I like the GTS more than the spyder for my usage. Unfortunately the spyder just looks so much better and has so much emotional appeal to me and emotion wins for me with cars. GTS is great though and I think this vid does a good job explaining why.

He's honest about why he never drove the Turbo 4 car. He says its "not my type of car". I think thats fair game and he's certainly not the first to express a similar opinion.

The main thing the 2.5L S/GTS would be better at than the 4.0L engine is 45-75 km/h corners with a manual transmission. With the manual transmission, the engine is at 3000 RPM in second gear at 50 km/h. Turbo lag at 3000 RPM with the VTG turbos is minimal, and the 2.5L turbo engine gives 420 Nm of torque instead of 360 Nm with the 4.0L engine at 3000 RPM. Below 45 km/h, one could reasonably downshift to first gear on the 4.0L engine. By 75 km/h, the 4.0L is at 400 Nm of torque (near parity with the turbo), it's at parity by 85 km/h, and has a torque advantage at high RPMs. With a PDK, the benefit of the low end turbo torque is diminished because it's more feasible to downshift to first briefly and then return to second soon after, and also second gear is shorter with the PDK.

I've driven both the 2.5L (and 2.0L) 718s, and I own a 4.0L Spyder. Apart from the low end torque, the 4.0L is better is every way. Quicker/sharper throttle response, more exciting sound (particularly at high RPM), stronger acceleration when in the power band, and greater smoothness (particularly when lugging the engine at low RPM). I actually like the four cylinder engine's low RPM growing sound though. The 2.5L with VTG turbos is IMO much better than the 2.0L engine mainly because the 2.0L engine has excessive turbo lag at low RPM, and feels weak before the turbos spool up.

On a separate note, several dyno tests of OPF delete pipes have shown a roughly 10% boost in low RPM torque that would largely eliminate the 2.5L turbo's low RPM advantage.

Why would I want to do that?
I'm plenty relaxed. I generally enjoyed the video. Unfortunately the whole video was about "this is the Greatest Boxster Ever" and it's made him give up his beloved desires for a 911 - but he never even drove the predecessor because someone else told him it sounded bad. I'm sorry, but that is really just unacceptable/lame/pathetic/etc. Can't he take the time to form his own opinion? Apparently not.

Hi!

I'm glad I'm not the only one spotting a big wheel gap.
I did some comparison to a 981 model which has a nicer stance and looks (and is) lower.
Both with -20 mm suspension. 718 GTS 4.0 with stock (S)PASM and 981 with X73 (also -20 mm).

I wonder if anyone else put the new GTS on a scale. I doubt it only weights 1280 kg.

Can confirm the wheel gap difference is material between the 981 and 982 GTS models - I got together with a friend who drives a 981 GTS (I have the 982), and his car's stance was materially different. Will post a pic one of these days.

Months have passed after the last post and I assume some new GTS's 4.0 have been driven during this period. Can you share your experience and tell if your PASM/SPASM 4.0 show the fender gap and what are the pros and cons of having PASM or SPASM? Me also going back and forth with the decision as some rumors say the SPASM suspension could be too harsh in that particular model. Thank you.

There is a whole thread on that topic. I ended up with SPASM.

I have had my BGTS 4.0 since January - PASM. Westchester county 1 hour outside NYC. I never understood this fixation with wheel gap.. All I know is the roads are terrible here - glad I have PASM,

I also always drive in Sport 1 or 2 mode. That already makes things tighter and rougher. No SPASM for me.
