Default GTS BOXSTER or GT4

Hello!
I am very confused as to which of these cars I would like. I currently have F90 M5. I have never owned a P car before. I was originally contemplating 911 but I am liking the 718s more. I usually drive 15-18k miles a year & this will be a daily driver. My heart is set on a GTS 4.0 BOXSTER but I just can’t seem to get the GT4 out of my head. Also I will be getting a PDK since no experience in Manual . Please advice on your personal experiences on both cars. Will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Hiren

I really like the GT4 and was offered allocations from multiple local dealers but at the end I decided to go with a gts4.0 boxster because that’s more suitable for the way I intend to use the vehicle for. DD a GT car requires quite a bit of efforts. I just can’t daily use a track focused car anymore.

You have to decide whether you want a vert or not. That will be the first step IMO.

I will tell you what I did.

I was totally captivated by the promo shots of the spyder but never owned a vert before. Always wanted a vert because it looks so much fun.

So I just went out and bought a miata to see if I can live with a vert. I can, so I am ordering a spyder.

Don't worry about the manual part. Just go buy a used Miata with manual and learn. Two birds with one stone!

I went through a very similar decision making process a few years ago when I was debating 981 Boxster or Cayman. I take my car to the track a few times a year, and it’s my second car so mostly goes out on the weekend or in comfortable convertible weather.

Years ago I had a C5 Corvette and would take the targa roof off it every chance I got, so I knew I would use and love a convertible. I ended up with a Boxster and have never once regretted the decision.

Why the GTS 4.0 Boxster and not the 718 Spyder?

The spyder roof has very little sound insulation. At high speeds the car becomes quite noisy from the wind sound. The Engine and suspension are fabulous and the car Is a lot more compliant than other GT’s I have experienced.
The manual roof component in the spyder also takes a bit of work. The upside? Subjectively there is nothing like it within the lineup in the looks department particularly because of that roof.
Also driving a manual depends on the type of traffic you usually encounter. If you will do a lot of stop and go, I would advise against it. That said, the car is special exactly because of that set of pros and cons.
Hope that helps

You will not survive 15-18k miles/year in a Spyder or GT4. Boxster GTS 4.0 with PDK is exactly what you need and you will love it. Much better than any 911 too, especially convertibles.

Bhaisheb, you need to learn how to drive a manual transmission car and put all other thoughts out of your mind.

Get the GT4 with a 6-speed and experience Porsche Nirvana.

This is a picture you will appreciate:

A GT4 as a 15-18k annual DD makes no sense. Buy the GTS, or even better, get a 992 for that duty. You’ll be much happier.

If that opinion is based on the suspension being too harsh, that should not be a concern if one adds a DSC Controller. I drive my GT4 to work 110mi round trip, and "comfort" is not an issue. I was considering selling my car in the first week because of the factory PASM settings. With the DSC Controller, I'm actually contemplating getting stiffer front springs.

Don't listen to me. I have no opinion. I just read how the 718 Spyder/GT4 are soft and compliant, and I'm planning on getting a GTS 4.0 which is even softer and more compliant. I have a 5 series BMW for soft and compliant -- don't need that in my backroads car.

Solid copy. I'm just letting people know, "There's a fix for that", if they think the Spyder/GT4 is "too stiff" to drive on a regular basis. Everyone's idea of "harsh" may vary, but regardless, "there is a fix".
