Okay this quick synopsis of different Porsche’s including the Porsche 718 may be far more interesting than the video review by Gateawayer. I recently posted
.” His last line about convertible sports cars is telling.

I am always amazed at how consistently reviewers lament the manual top.
I am actually looking forward to the 90%ish manual operation of the roof. Perhaps I will change my tune once I encounter it but for now I actually see it as a positive and as fully in keeping with the essence of the Spyder.
With the power tops of Boxsters I hate pushing the button to raise and lower as I always anticipate hearing that motor stop and the cash register ringing. Hasn’t happened yet so full marks to Porsche, but it doesn’t stop me from thinking about it.

As an owner of two first generation Miatas, I am wholly in favor of manual tops. One of my Miatas hasn't had the top up in two years. Why carry around the extra weight of a power assembly?
There is a tiny twinge of regret that I am awaiting a GT4 and not a Spyder, but for this one, GT4 was the right choice.

I love the manual top - it adds to car IMHO. I’ve had the car for 2 weeks and after last drive of the day roof goes up. I have no idea how the car drives roof up
. And I plan on driving the car that way for best enjoyment - top down - at least as much as I possibly can.

He states that the manual too is a “bit of an ordeal”... please!, it takes me less than a minute to operate up or down. If you can’t manage that, should you be driving this car or any car? Sorry I’m being harsh but at times there’s beauty in simplicity, the roof design of the Spyder is just that.

I have about 750 miles on my Spyder in about 5 weeks of ownership. Every single mile since I brought it home has been pure intentional pleasure driving. I have not used this car for practical transportation at all !!
Having the manual top adds to purposeful pleasure driving ideology IMO, as does the manual gearbox.

Ok enough on the roof - I am sure we will come back to it because it’s so polarizing.
On the article’s ranking, I have to agree with the article’s conclusion - I am only slightly bias
. But kidding aside, a case could be made for his claim. Of course it will illicit different points of view, which makes it all the more interesting.
