To be honest, I don’t think that’s what Porsche meant by the above. I believe they are referring to the ease of shift **** movement and it “loosening up” with time (although ironically some have reported the opposite to occur). I do not think they are referring to 1-2 grind as this has nothing to do with stiffness.
I agree with you. I was just posting the only thing I could find related to this subject.
Well ya, they don’t specifically say “Get ready for some grinds!”, but look at the text below. They at least acknowledge that it’ll take some time and KM’s run things in. The issue does seem to go away for most people - anyone have high miles with regular grinds?
I’m not sure if this is grinding, but I will get a tight rubbing/“squawk” noise, like something’s too tight and rubs together as I’m shifting into 2nd. I’ll feel more resistance too. When I had the windows down I could definitely hear the noise coming externally from the bottom of the car too. Is the screening? Or is there something not quite right with the shift linkage or something?
I put about 10,700 miles on my 2020 GT4 prior to pre-trading it.
Had three 1-2 grinds in the first 2000 miles, then slowed that shift so much that it took away some of the driving enjoyment. In the last 2000 miles of ownership I increased the speed of the 1-2 shift and got two additional grinds. It is painful to experience!
It seems to have become less frequent, but the problem persisted throughout the ownership experience of nearly 11,000 miles.

Sometimes it is the engine running on 1/2 the banks on low throttle. The sound can be quite grating when engine first starts up. When you first start the car it is a bit jarring to hear it but it can happen almost immediately. Are you manually defeating system by pressing the auto-start stop button?
LOL. Thankfully no! I get where you're going. And don't get me wrong, I wasn't jamming gears. But I also wasn't going to live with a new Porsche and not be able to drive normally, so if it was going to fail, fail under warranty.
I had my SA take my car out (with me) for a test drive regarding the 1 - 2 grind as well as "whirring" that can occur at freeway cruising speeds in 5th and 6th gear just as the RPM's increase above 3500.
I currently have 14,500 miles on my GT4.
Said my gearbox felt "good". The whirring seems to be a harmonic noise. As long as it stays the same, I probably shouldnt worry about it. As for the 2nd gear "grind" the only thing he could think of was whether or not there might be some kind of cable adjustment that can be made. It's unknown whether the new gearbox was installed without any "adjustment" or checking if there needed to be from the setting that came with the new box. With Boxsters, there is a tool the shape of a box that a tech uses to make sure that the cables are in the right adjustment. He's not sure if this is also applicable to the GT4, but he was gonna ask one of his techs and get back to me. He also advised putting another 1500 miles on the car and then come back for a gearbox oil check, to see if there were any abnormally high measurements of brass in the oil. I believe the synchros are made of brass.

I'm curious about the "whirring" that you describe. Could be the same sound that I describe it a resonance in this post link, which can occur in tall gears but also in 2nd and 3rd if you are barely touching the throttle around 5k RPM.
I've made a quick recording of this in this link (you will need good quality headphones to hear it). Notice that I have an aftermarket exhaust and this "whirring" is much more annoying!.
Do you have band straps mounts or silent block on your exhaust? Have you made any mods on your exhaust?
Another day, another grind. My car is now doing it with slow shifts on slow acceleration during casual driving. The car has 3400 miles and is 2 years old. I need to take it in for routine maintenance again and will mention but doubt they will do anything. I wish I had more than one dealer nearby that I could take it to.
I have not had the pleasure of driving mine since June, but last I did it was also exhibiting this issue at just over 2,000 miles. I first reported it at 350 miles to my SA, and think I will finally break down and give it to them to diagnose.
My issue is that it is still a once a day occurrence, at the most frequent. I'd really like to tell the service manager to just use it as a daily until he experiences the issue.
So I had it once at <500 miles. Would hardly even call it a grind, but more like a buzz. Was 4000rpm 1st to 2nd. That was months ago and not happened since.
The solution may be to be diligent in keeping the shift from 1 to 2 to the LHS of the gate. My thoughts are if you stray straight or a bit to the RHS on the shift you may get a grind. Anyway, my 2c worth.
