Any 991.2 GT3 MT or 981 GT4 owners with a 718 GT4/Spyder yet?
I have a 991.2 GT3 MT and also a 981 GT4. Love the engine in the GT3 but honestly that's about it. Love the GT4 but wish it had a bit more motor. Not 500HP (although I'd take it) just a bit more "specialness" in how the engine runs/pulls/feels.
My GT4 has Cargraphic race headers with stock PSE and IPD plenum, so the sound is decent when I want it to be (I have a switchable control for the PSE).
I also have a track car (older Radical) so my desire is for a fun, nice weather car for 1 - 3 hour drives.
Honestly, the GT3 is too much car for me on the street and I don't find it playful. Sure, you can hit 150+ in a heart beat on the hightway, but now that the quarantine is over, that's not gonna happen much. I also don't like the 991.2 GT3 clutch and rev-matching logic.
The GT4 (and especially my wife's 981 Spyder) is a great street car, much more playful than the GT3 (the Spyder is better than the GT4, even) and you can use more of the car's abilities on the street compared to the GT3.
So, I'm thinking of getting rid of my GT3 (I only have 3k miles, which is a shame) and my 981 GT4 and getting a 718 GT4.
Can anyone with a 991.2 GT3 and/or a 981 GT4 comment on whether the 718 GT4 engine feels a bit more special than before? Is there any extra buzz like you have in the GT3 that you can feel through the seat? Does it pull a bit harder than the 981 GT4 in the 2k - 4k range?
Thanks.

I have a 991.2 GT3 but in PDK along with a 718 GT4.
In terms of engine feel, the GT3 is definitely much more special not only due to power but its louder as well. The GT4 is much much quieter and I’m probably going to get an aftermarket exhaust later.
I do like the GT4’s nimbleness and manual transmission. I see many car reviewers complain how tall gearing is but its not an issue for me as the car has sufficient power even in lower RPM’s.
Oh, and between the two, I actually find the GT4 a tad more comfortable and more suitable for daily driving more than the GT3.

Have you thought about re-gearing the 981?

Thought about it a bit, but not really into invasive mods. Maybe I'll rethink that, the tranny isn't a big deal. I just hate the idea of dropping the engine, etc. Things are never quite exactly the same as when it left the factory. That's why I haven't done the 3rd gear recall on my GT4 yet. Ain't broke, don't fix it.

I had thought that the 718 GT4 isn't really that much more powerful than the 981. At least us 981 guys are all saying "the torque is the same", etc.
Looked this up this AM -- from C&D.
Was surprised at the 5-60 and 50-70 differences. I don't care about 0-60, I'm not a drag race guy.

Sold my GT3 and will pickup a 718 Spyder for the same reasons.
Also interested hearing about 718GT4 vs 981GT4 engine!

I just decided I'm going to leave work early, go home, hook up the MXL2 and go do some 5-60 and top gear 50-70 runs. I'm curious what my times would be vs the C&D numbers. If mine are the same or better, I just quit my complaining and drive the car. First world problems.

Interesting, although not the first time I've heard GT3 owners move to GT4 territory. I was looking more toward a GT3 just for the sound alone.

I have a manual 991.2 GT3. I also had a 981 GT4. The GT4 was great but lacked mid range power. The GT3 with Dundon exhaust is intoxicating. The rear engine is also more playful- the GT4 was almost sterile in comparison. I loved the GT4 until I got the GT3. FYI: I also have a 987 Spyder which is fun but not epic. I would recommend a lightly used GT3 over a new 718 GT4. The tall gearing on both GT4’s also takes away some of the fun and the GT3 engine and suspension is in a different class.

"I also don't like the 991.2 GT3 clutch and rev-matching logic."
You nailed it....almost. There really is no rev-matching logic in the GT3. I would call it consistently unpredictable.
