So it would seem that not only opting for the Smartphone Compartment but Car Play as well will remove the AUX from the glove compartment.

Default Smartphone Compartment

According my 2020 718 Spyder manual the Smartphone compartment provides better reception and lower radiation levels. It connects to the external antennae "when using bluetooth".

I don't read that it is a requirement to be using Bluetooth for the phone to use the eternal antenna... just that when connected and using Bluetooth the radiation levels are lower.

IMHO the wording describing the compartment operation is vague at best.

Did we solve the confusion about the smartphone compartment?

So the agreement is this is a signal booster and no wireless charger. Fine.

What about the ports? The configuration for smartphone compartment says "Note: USB port instead of 12-volt socket in the center console storage compartment. Deletion of AUX port in the glove compartment."

But it sounds like having Carplay (standard on GTS 4.0), has the same implications: USB ports only in both center console (and in the glove box) and no aux port anywhere.

Correct?

I opted for the Smartphone compartment, confirmed only USB ports in center console compartment and glove box. Not sure why they removed the AUX in the glove compartment though, I added it back in.

Oh, the car is wired for it and can be retrofitted? Nice. I may not have an immediate need for it but you never know.

No, Porsche tries very hard not to leave anything on the table, it is not wired for it nor enabled in the firmware of the PCM. I built a cable with the appropriate pins and connectors, and I know a guy that knows his way around the PCM.

The smartphone compartment is useless. You'll need a really long cord for CarPlay to make it easier to plug in, then you'll have a mess of a cord when trying to close the lid. Easier to just mount your phone outside, which defeats the purpose of the compartment.

I use a 10" long cord to plug my phone in, easy to do and fits perfectly inside the compartment.

I wish someone could take pictures of normal console and smartphone compartment one and show them side by side.

Is normal console a simple storage container, but the smartphone one has an extra compartment for the phone? So the storage part is smaller/shallower? Or the whole console becomes the smartphone compartment.

Oh, the video in comment #5 indicates it's the latter - whole console becomes the smartphone compartment.

Found some random pictures of both. Evidently, the normal console is deeper.

It's confusing because on every other model, the Smartphone compartment DOES include wireless charging (and costs basically the same as here). Artifact of being the oldest architecture in the lineup, I guess.

Although I find that when my phone is in the Smartphone compartment and plugged in, it is by default charging through the connecting USB cable...
