I was hoping for a LA debut (like the 987 Spyder) for late spring deliveries...now with a March/April debut (like the 981 Spyder) that means deliveries will be November.... meaning realistically Spring 2020 to actually drive it.... personally anyways. Way too far away.

4Q19 release, and see my old post it’s a 4L.

You’re probably right about larger brakes unneeded and a possible negative, but not if you opt for PCCBs, I suppose, whose weight savings would probably more than offset their larger size vs the conventional smaller iron rotors.
Steering on 981 Spyder seems pretty perfect to me. I remember reading it was the same steering rack as the 991.1 Tirbo, right? Having owned a GT4 and driven one last weekend at Smokies GT, I don’t feel as though steering feel in GT4 is better, even if it’s different.
Suspension... funny thing is I prefer the Spyder’s suspension tuning, which isn’t adjustable, over the GT4 suspension in either of its modes.
I suspose the need for better suspension and brakes may be more related to dealing with more power and equalizing it with GT4 for marketing purposes.

After almost 60 Porsches in 38 years including many RSs', 959 and an R, I wonder if my 981 Spyder is not the best drive.

This wealth of experience is very interesting to me. A 16 Spyder was my first Porsche sports car. Since then I’ve added a 991.2 manual cab and a new GT3 Touring looking for an even “better” experience. While I like the new additions I still enjoy the Spyder best and was thinking I must be crazy to feel that way.

Agree with you all. The steering on the 981? Very very good but I do think this is where the lowly 987.2 Spyder really shines. The 987.2 doesn't have the power or that larger, beautiful body, or the top errr... well... I'll leave that one alone, but the hydraulic steering and x73 suspension combined? Sublime. I am sure the 982 will address this with the latest bits and bites from the Turbo. It's great to hear from those of us that have some of the unobtainiums such as the 911 R and the 4.0 GT3 RSs. I've not driven those but have the 997.2 GT3 and the RS and find the Spyder a solid 80% of those. Blasphemous some would say? Perhaps. I still have the itch for a 997.2 GT3 RS but so far it's not strong enough to swap for my current Spyder. The RS when I drove it was a ride that you just break out laughing. It's such a bat-sh#t crazy, very analog car. But so is the Spyder and with a top that drops.

I had someone offer full retail on mine recently because they wanted the spec. I know it's the right econ decision to sell it and wait for the 982, but there's nothing out there for close to this price or offer this combo of fun/utility wrapped in one car. So, I don't think I want to be without it until a 982 comes in with my name on it.
