I will.
Yes. But not to the factory. The shops that do PPF well, every day, will be cheaper - or offer more coverage for the same cost - and will be no worse, maybe better, than the factory.

Though 4yr factory warranty is a big plus.

But if it needs repair, does the dealership do it?

Only if the film delaminates will the film be covered.

You think PCNA will warranty film damage from rocks and stuff?

And it’ll be the same kids that drag a dirty Brillo pad across your paint for the “Courtesy Wash.”

Just my .02, but I would have an independent shop install paint protection film. For a couple grand, you can get more coverage and also specify the product. Not trying to trash Porsche for offering, but I just purchased a '19 Toyota Landcruiser and it came with the protective film.

I know it's Toyota and not Porsche, but I am NOT impressed with the factory film.

All North American cars will have it. Same as the 981. All press and launch photos are cars for Europe... which do not have it. All NA regions test cars have had the wart.

from a design perspective and engineering one is there a reason it is located in the rear of the car between the humps ? Couldn't it be incorporated into the dash as part of the center clock/stopwatch on top of the dash?

It likely creates 1000 kg of downforce.

At least this is what I tell myself so I am not sad

The power-to-weight ratio, at least as reported by Porsche, is actually better on the 981 than the 982, albeit just slightly:

987 Spyder = 8.77 lbs/hp
981 Spyder = 7.7 lbs/hp
982 Spyder = 7.8 lbs/hp

And do we know that 65 lbs. is the actual weight difference between the 981 and 982 Spyders after factoring in all the variances in the way the weight of each car is measured, or is this a reference to what AP said in one of his interviews about the weight of the new GT4 (not the Spyder):

With any Porsche, and GT products in particular, there's always a focus on saving weight. The Cayman GT4 reportedly weighs in at 3,130 pounds, a noticeable gain over the old car's 2,954 pounds. Preuninger is quick to point out that the way homologated weights are legally measured has changed. Where previously a car could be optionally optimized with weight-reducing equipment, cars now need to be homologated without any options added or, indeed, removed.

Considering that (heavy) exhaust particulate filters are required in this generation, along with a larger battery and starter motor to provide stop-start functionality — another requirement — the weight gain isn't too substantial.

"There are so many [option] boxes to tick that make the car lighter, so this car nominally is about 130 pounds to 176 pounds heavier on paper, but it's only about 66 pounds heavier in the real world if you compare apples to apples," says Preuninger.

Many others have expressed the same interest. No reason why the top Boxster engine and suspension must exclusively come with a cumbersome top.
I'll throw a log on the flame of rampant speculation. Word on the street is:

PCNA is no longer allocating 718’s to US dealers. Except for the Spyder and the GT4, there will be no more 4-cylinder base, S or GTS 718 cars allocated and there will not be another 4-cylinder 718. Then, in July 2020, Porsche will bring to market a 718 T with a 6-cylinder engine.

Henry, I was under the impression deliveries would not commence until spring 2020 and that the Spyder would thus be a MY2020. What makes you think the new Spyder will be delivered this year as a MY2019? Did I miss something?

I know sound is important to many, but I can't see throwing out the baby with the bath water if the sound does prove less compelling than on the 981. So many things the 982 has going for it. Pity to scrap all that just because the ear candy is less than hoped. I say keep the faith and if the U.S. cars are found to be aurally wanting, resort to the aftermarket for exhaust options if you must, but don't throw in the towel on the car. I know many 981 owners (like me) thought they were buying the last NA car, but with the 982 that will likely be the case IMO with electric/hybrid on the horizon.
