While I agree that it could be done (and would be nice), I think it would be very risky in terms of liability. If you spec out a car and expected an exact weight, lawsuits would probably start to fly when people place their cars on actual scales. There have been suits over cars that didn’t produce the specified bhp. I think that getting too specific with vehicle weight would create a lot of headaches. That being said, I think that specifying component weight for the major options (18 way vs 2 way vs full buckets, base radio vs Bose vs Burmeister, and maybe the powered unicorn top vs the Spyder top) would be an appropriate and very helpful way to go.

I don't think liability is an issue at all. Nothing a good disclaimer wouldn't resolve. And why would a car weigh much more in real life than the advertised weight anyway? It's not like parts vary that much by weight between batches. HP is a much harder number to nail down and keep fixed and yet it's the first number we see advertised on every new model. Weight should be much easier to nail down within a much smaller % variation.

EDIT: They publish 0-60mph numbers, which everyone knows are all over the place depending on conditions, driver, tires, options etc, for crying out loud.

The more I think about this, the more convinced I am that this obfuscation is planned and intentional.

I've always thought every option on the configurator should be accompanied by the weight of that option so weight freaks like me can make educated decisions in spec'ing our cars. Trying to decide between wheel options? Maybe posting the weight of each wheel would help you decide. You want Bermester High End 3-D Surround Sound and all that goes along with it? Well, that will add X pounds over the standard CDR. Post up the weights of the various seat options offered and arm the customer with info. How cool to be able to hit "Configurator Summary" and see the exact weight of that particular build and be able to compare it to the weight of other builds one is considering. Would love to see it, but doubt seriously it will ever happen. Pipe dream!

Um. Is that a tricycle pulling a caravan? In matching colours to the Spyder I might add.

So the internal, rear window, part of the roof is black on the red roof option? Two tone, red-black roof?

Correct... just as the early proto.

I agree, it would be great to know the weights of the various options. For example the xenons are a popular option but I believe they add about 15 lbs to the car.

IIRC on the 987 Spyder they noted that the weights quoted were without AC/Radio and included LWB which was basically its stock configuration. So if that’s true then PCCB’s would put the weight under 2800 lbs. Add lightweight batteries and full leather and your easily at 2750 lbs which is impressive. But most were configured with AC/Radio so automatically add about 50 lbs back.

Ha... looking good. I have an extra set of the Porsche stripes from my 981 that I never used. Glad I kept them now.
