Porsche's hands are tied - they need to meet economy and emissions standards, and the turbo allows that to happen for their mainstream cars... so that the GT cars can get away with NA for a while longer.

There will always be "enthusiast" buyers... and then the "badge" buyers. Let the badge buyers have their 4 banger turbos and be none the wiser, so that the enthusiasts can enjoy the NA glory as long as possible. It's a necessary evil... that allows a means to an end.

Not in the same league as the spyder for sure but better than the sound clips I've heard.
I hate the rear end in person even more than I did in pics.

Didn't snap pics, was too busy drooling over the singer.

Where are the pics of the Singer?!?! :P

It's the owner of dealership's personal car. It was just delivered, not for sale, as far as I know.. His yellow 918 is in the lobby as well.
SA said it cost in the neighborhood of 540 k.

But, run in manual mode, do a throttle pedal movement from 0 or part throttle to full, and you will feel how the boost builds up. It is physics and nature law - not even Porsches engineers can overcome that. Some will like it (or not be bothered) and some won't.
Well, keeping the waste-gate closed under part-throttle is physics as well I can compare it similar to the anti-lag setup found in WRC cars.

Holy crap. What's under the 'hood'? It says 4.0, so it better be the Mezger mill. And it should have 6 gears, correct? They're supposed to have amazing interiors, but no pic of that one. I remember seeing one with incredible beige seats and inserts. What platform is that? 968 or 993?

What? Of course W/G is closed on part throttle. W/G is mostly working along the full load line. On steady-state dyno diagrams it is especially visible at "the knee", at just under 2000rpm, where the W/G starts to open to create the "table top" torque curve.

It is not correct to compare W/G to an ALS.

Sorry, don't have exact detail on the engine and I could not get inside for a pic. Someone else shared a pic of the interior; it's gorgeous

Back on topic, here's the 718 I saw in agate grey

Take away the sound of the car and then think about the car. It's a step forward in almost every single way. Now move ahead in a couple years. People who have no idea what a Porsche is "supposed to sound like" have become entrenched in the Porsche brand with this sound. Personally, I think this is much ado about nada. Do we care more about how these cars perform or about how they sound? There are many thousands of current Porsche owners driving around 4 cylinder cars who will argue quite strongly with you that a Porsche is much more about handling, acceleration, and overall great engineering than exhaust note. Much of this reminds me of the air cooled water cooled hot air from the late 90's.

But the air cooled / water cooled issued had no impact on throttle response. FI vs. NA does. So that debate isn't really analogous.

Personally, I really like the look of the new car and I could give barely more than a rat's *** about the sound (unless it was just downright awful). Throttle response is all that would matter to me. I know the rest of the car (suspension, steering, etc.) is going to be better than the 981, but I have no patience for FI throttle response issues at all. And I've never, ever driven a FI car that had spot on throttle response, including the base .2 991 I test drove. Great car, but I could absolutely tell I was not driving an NA car. I am looking forward to driving a 718 S though to see what it's like.
