As a 718 owner, would you have wished your car had retained a flat 6 engine, or are you happier that you have a flat four turbo?..

... that answers the question doesn't it?

LOL A rhetorical question if I ever read one.

SA said it cost in the neighborhood of 540 k.
Sloan Cars in New Haven had a '98 993 S with 258 original miles in Ocean Blue with full Grey leather. Car was truly new. Asking $375K. Bargain? It was there for >6 months, but appears to be sold. Anyway, that Singer Porsche is just gorgeous!

I'm not sure if I qualify as an owner yet, since my car hasn't been delivered, but I'll offer my opinion anyway..

If the dealer showed me two cars.. 2016 and 2017 Boxter S's both with 2 miles, and the same options, I'd look at the specs and say: 2017.. more power, more torque, better gas mileage, this is a no brainer! If the dealer then said "but the 2016 SOUNDS better" I'd look at him, chuckle loudly, and say "you're joking right?" That 2016 would have to be SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper and even then, I'd probably buy the 718, because as far as the Boxter is concerned, it's 6 cylinder is old technology.

Interestingly, I've never liked Vettes. Yes the new one seems ok, but it's just not for me. I was comparing specs of two Boxters..not different cars. No one has YET to prove to me that the 718 isn't superior to previous Boxters.

That WAS the question right? Which Boxter would you choose? I gave MY opinion. You don't have to agree...

Not disagreeing with your opinion. But, it's B-O-X-S-T-E-R. As in Porsche Boxster.

I can prove to you that there has never been a 718 "Boxter," nor previous Boxters.

Guilty as charged! You, sir, have proven you are a troll.

Now, back to the show...please...what was that you were saying about your opinion of Boxters? I am enthralled. Carry on.

Easy there chief. Welcome to the Form but why go and diss somebody's ride? Please leave it in your head and not put it to text. Yer peein' in the pool!

P.s. In terms of a great sounding engine, the M97 was awesome, 6 cylinders and all, but in some cases had a tendency to blow up! Whoo hoo! The point being that technology changes, for the better. And I'm waiting to see what a company like Fabspeed creates for the 718. Could be a game changer on the sound issue. As for aftermarket steering bits to handle the lack of feel? Someone surely will cometh forth!

Thank You Zeus! This guy's been riding my butt since I first got here. He definitely has a problem with the 718 and anyone that likes them...

Personally I like the 718. To be honest I like better the 718S, because after testing both cars I kind of feel the 718 has a little turbo lag, while the 718S doesn't. (Or if it does, I'm not good enough to feel it)
I own a 981S very sporty, with X73, 20", PDK + Sport+ and all the toys to enjoy corners. I love the sound of its 3.4l flat six NA, but if tomorrow I could trade my lovely 981S for a 718S I would do it.
However, since trading for a car with the same spec means piling up at least 40k on top of my car, I'll keep enjoying its sound :-)
