Current experiences with ordering a Boxster?
My wife wants a yellow manual convertible. Which is a narrow enough selection that ordering one seems like the way to go. We're thinking an S or GTS 4.0.
How difficult is it to find allocations, and what discounts (if any) can we expect right now? We're in Albuquerque. There's precisely one dealership in New Mexico, and they generally don't have new sports cars for sale, so I suspect they don't have allocations for anything but Macans and Cayennes.
I looked at the GTS / GT4 / Spyder thread, and that seems entirely focused on GT4s, which is a very different market.

You need to fish around your area as every dealer is potentially a different scenario. Some may have big lineups even for a base model, whereas others you might be up next if you put a deposit down today.
However, it's difficult to get a car still unless you're buying something that no one usually wants. You will not get a discount. You also wont get an allocation without talking to a dealer, putting your name down, and likely putting a deposit down. 5g is pretty standard.

No discounts.
Start calling around, long wait lists for all 718 trims.
There is a broker in the 4.0 allocation thread if you are amenable to paying a small fee.
Put in the work and you can get one at/close to MSRP.

My local dealer was unable to order a car for me. However, I loved the one gts 4.0 they had on the lot and i was able to buy it with a very generous discount, the caveat was that it was a highly optioned 130k msrp car.

If you choose to go that route, I recommend Ben Peacock here on the board
There are approximately 200 dealerships here in the USA, the other option is to make a list and contact each and every one until you secure a configurable allocation with a commission number, the commission number is critical to confirm that you have an actual build.

OK, good to know. When we bought my wife’s Cayman in 2014 we got an 8% discount without much difficulty. I wasn’t sure if supply was still bad enough that you couldn’t get discounts.
I had no idea brokers were even a thing.

Unfortunately, since Covid and the effects of the war things in the Porsche world have changed greatly. Currently there are no discounts and very few sports cars sitting on dealer lots, even at the very large dealerships. It will take a bunch of work on your part with internet searches and phone calls as stated above. I did a quick check of Champion Porsche and they only had two used Boxsters, a 2022 ‘S’ and a 2023 GTS, neither were yellow.

Hard to get an allocation in NM. The dealer said they got maybe 4 or 5 Cayman allocations last year, assuming similar for boxsters. They were asking for an ADM. Used 718s at the dealer also sold quickly for rather high prices here.

Dont be against buying out of state. Coordinate with your local dealer and with a dealer out of state that would be selling you the car. Most of the time the local dealer would be willing to take delivery of your car from the out of state dealer. You might have to pay your own shipping costs but at least this way you can experience the Porsche delivery at your own dealership if that's something you want to do.

Allocations are very hard to get and if you do in the near future expect to pay ADM. The Boxster/Cayman is going electric in 2025 so it might be too late already to order 1, unless you can hunt 1 down with a broker what you cost you a good chunk of cash. Good luck, you just joined the party very late with these ICE cars. In a year and a few months the electric 718 cars will be here, time is running out.
