718 Speedo Error
The speedo on my '22 base boxster is wildly inaccurate. It reads around 8% fast.
I can see why porsche does this. Some speedo error is allowed by regulations, and it makes the car seem faster than it is. Plus, it means 8% more service revenue. The latter does not bother me as much as the fact that I constantly have to juggle the number in my head to know how fast I'm going.
Yesterday I was in my volvo with google maps running, and the speedo is perfectly accurate. My wifes VW alltrack, ditto
Does anyone know if a correction factor can be programmed via PIWIS
My old air cooled porsches had about the same error

TPMS is correctly set as 18 summer, but thanks
A dozen years subaru lost a class action lawsuit against it for this very reason. My son's mini is out by 5%. I think this is very common with european cars.
Speaking of conspiracy theories, did you hear the one about certain auto manufacturers creating a fake "test" driving mode to cheat on emissions?

No need for snark, I was just checking regarding tire size.
Regarding conspiracies, the emissions scandal was a sophisticated attempt to defraud regulators. Something as blatant as speedos systematically set 8% off to increase service business would be obvious to everyone, especially with the high proportion of Porsche owners who are enthusiasts.
FWIW, my speedo is spot on with the ultra high precision GPS I use with my lap timer at the track. Your problem is likely specific to your car. It's still under warranty as a '22. Take it to the dealer to get it checked out.

the guy who went to the dealer to complain just got blown off. That's why I'm hoping there is a PIWIS fix

Most countries AFAIK are signatory to an agreement that specifies that speedos must read at least 4 kph fast.
I suspect that means that if you are caught speeding you can't claim speedo error.

I remember in the day, you could wind a Porsche 911T that could go perhaps 125mph up to 150, ...on the speedometer. In those days, tho, the speedo was just a rotating magnet, a spring and a needle mechanically connected to the wheels. Nowadays, with sophisticated computer control and manufacturer spec'd tires they could do better, and some do, like my volvo. Perhaps it's that adult cars have an accurate speedo, and enthusiast owners need to be lied to.

We need someone to Make Our Speedometers Great Again Damit! MOSGAD hats for sale in the shop.
Ya, you would think the thing would be plus or minus three feet per second in 2023 or even in 1973, certainly the technology is not that complex. Why they are not will remain a mystery.

Oh, been meaning to look into the proper software for Porsche diagnostics. I have ISTA+ and VAGCOM running on a windows 7 virtual machine on mac air. Both work fine. I could not get VAGCOM working on Windows 11 on my new MacBook although others have reported it works on M1 chip Macs...>I have to figure that out.
Anyway, do you now if PIWIS supports VM's on macs???

For whatever it's worth the speedometer in both my Macan and my Cayman reads 2mph faster than my GPS.

The 2.0 718 runs 24.7 mph per 1000 rpm in 6th gear (both 6S manual and 7S pdk). The rev counter reads each pulse from the coils so is reliable. Just check your speedo reading at 1000 rpm in 6th gear. If it’s more than 25 mph, call the conspiracy police…
