I have a 2018 718 GTS and I keep my phone in the center console and the radar detector mounted on a Blendmount in the rear view mirror. While driving around town I keep losing GPS signal to the radar detector and the phone. It's pretty weird and I have never had this issue in previous cars. Wondering if anyone know how I might fix this issue.

Are you windows tinted? I have heard of instances where certain brands/types of tint will block signal.

They’re not tinted. GPS reception seems to be improved as long as I don’t keep the phone in the center console, so I’m considering getting a phone mount. Very odd issue.

I had this with CarPlay in my prior 2018. I disconnected the gps antenna cable by the rear view mirror and reconnected it and that worked for me.

Oh maybe that's what's going on! I wired a couple of cables through the rear view mirror a few weeks ago and might have disconnected the GPS antenna by accident.

Quick update:
Solved the GPS issue in CarPlay by switching to a wireless carplay adapter. Now the GPS through CarPlay is flawless. Hope this helps others with issues too.


The issues with the Uniden R7 were unrelated.
