What to check before purchasing a manual GTS
I recently found a 2018 cayman gts 2.5 with a stick. MSRP 100k and now asking for 86k (NOT CPO'ed), it is crazy I know. It will be my first Porsche and I intend to keep it for ~5 years. The car has 14000 miles and all the options I wanted. I wonder what should I check before purchasing it?
I have seen this car in person. The exterior is in excellent condition, no chip or anything. Interior is red+black leather and they really look new. There is only one very little wear on the side bolster of driver's seat, negligible to me. The breaks look pretty good. Calipers look new and not discolored so most likely not tracked. Back tires were changed but front ones have enough left.
DME reports shows 0 over rev across all ranges. 14000 miles and 700 operating hours put it at an average speed of 20 mph.
From what I can tell it is in great condition and really babied by the previous owner. The dealer is willing to CPO it but they quoted me 5k to do that, and quoted me only 6k for 4 years of extended warranty. I would rather skip CPO to save some money but also want to be certain there will not be any surprises. The dealer said they could do a CPO inspection for me but not certify it to avoid 5k fee. Any advices on any further inspections will be greatly appreciated!
And of course there is a CPO'ed 2018 GTS with pdk, MSRP 102k and asking for 93k. I drove manual for 2 years when I first learned how to drive and then decade(s) with auto box... However, do not think I want to pay 9k for a gearbox, even it is a pdk.

Not sure how much the CPO covers. But a 2018 should be out of regular warranty soon. For piece of mind……and crazy possible unseen repair costs…….
Maybe opt for the CPO if you can swing it. My opinion.

Hey CYXXX, I think I found the vehicle you're looking at for sale, here is some extended warranty information from two top tier 3rd party companies, Fidelity and Freedom Warranty, with their highest level of coverage. The Porsche CPO would be considered mid tier coverage in the warranty industry. These quotes below are exclusionary policies and accepted at all Porsche North America dealerships.
2018 Porsche Cayman GTS w/ 14,680 miles:
Fidelity Platinum:
5 years / additional 60k miles
$100 deductible
-$3,720
$250 deductible
5 years / additional 75k miles
$100 deductible
-$4,121
$250 deductible
Freedom Warranty Complete Manufactures Extension:
5 years / up to 100k miles
$0 deductible
-$4,245
$100 deductible
-$4,095

I suggest having them do the CPO Inspection only and buying a Fidelity Platinum Warranty. Search this or the 991 Forum for a thread on the best prices; however, Mike Jordon at Mossy Motors is someone that has sold quite a few here.

I agree with Bob Z, have them CPO check it and buy the extended warranty. I have a 2018 CGTS that is just coming off the warranty. I’m going to buy an extended warranty and keep the car. The prices for the extended warranty is similar to what Highline posted.

Why only those 2 cars?
Plenty of 718 GTS cars for sale nationwide.
You can always negotiate asking prices.

The rest are mostly not located in a Porsche dealership and not local. I want to buy a CPO or something that can be CPO inspected since it will be my first Porsche and I plan to keep it for a while.

Is yours manual or pdk? I do not consider myself as a great manual driver.

Yeah I am trying to do that as well, but that is at least 4200 (3500 warranty + 700 inspection), which puts it close enough to that pdk gts.

The Cayman CPO does not cost the dealer that much. I know the 911 is $3400 and then about another $400 to $600 for the CPO inspection charge from service to sales. Last I talked to my buddy a Cayman was still under $2400 plus the inspection from the service department. If you like I can text him tomorrow to confirm. Not sure why the dealership didn't CPO to start with other than trying to keep price down to initiate interest. Odd.
