Red cap on trickle charger

Red cap on trickle charger
Hello! I may be overthinking this but thought I’d ask. I recently started using a trickle charger for my base 718 Cayman. I'm currently using the CTEK MXS 5.0 with the cigarette lighter adapter. I noticed that the adapter came in with a red cap. Do you plug it in with the red cap attached to the cigarette lighter? Also, do you guys use the regular car mode or AGM?
Thanks!
Thanks!

The red cap is there so that it can be removed for some vehicles that have a smaller 12v port. I found removal was needed on a BMW motorcycle I had before. Leave it on for most cars.
Porsche recommends not exceeding 14.5V when charging their batteries, although they are a type of AGM battery. See https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...25213-9999.pdf
Since the CTEK can exceed 14.5 volts in the AGM setting, stick with the normal car setting just like ANGST recommended.

I use the Porsche Charge-O-Mat Pro which doesn't have those settings, even though it is made by CTEK for Porsche, so I can't advise on your CTEK model beyond what I said earlier.

All this time I thought the rad cap was for shipping to keep it safe. I removed it for my Porsche charger. Maybe I will plug it back on.

Guys - can you explain in more detail why you're not using the AGM setting on the CTEK MXS 5.0? I thought my car (2018 CS) has an AGM battery. Have been using this setting.

From what I’ve read on here, AGM mode sometimes charges greater than the recommended voltage (14.5 or less). I remember reading someone reached out to CTEK and was advised to use regular mode to be safe.
