Default Soon to be new Cayman driver... and the dreaded seat question, haha

Excited to make the leap into a new Cayman this November, base model with M/T, Aventurine Green/Agate Grey. I did search and did not see a topic on my exact question..

As many before me can imagine and have done, I've spent hours searching/reading forums, online reviews, and watching youtube videos to try and make the final decision Re seat options. I've narrowed it down to one of the 4-ways... and have driven a couple models with the 4-way sport and 14-way sport seats (no dealer near me has the SS+ and/or 18-ways). I am 6'4 and 216, and I fit really nicely in the car. I do have a friend with a 2022 911 with the 18-ways, I realize these aren't the same seats, but my experience sitting in his car told me that in his 18-ways, when I set the side bolsters to their most aggressive position, it was too snug/tight... so I wondered how snug/tight the 718 4-way SS+ side bolsters are naturally (in their standard/non-adjustable setting). Can anyone who has sat in a 18-way vs 4-way SS+ help me with this? Having already sat in the 4-way/14-way sports, if the SS+ are medium bolstered for example, that would excite me, but if equal to the 18-way in their most aggressive setting, it would be a no-go. I hope this makes sense.

I'm fired up, couldn't believe how well I fit into the car and was able to work the clutch/gearbox... so for tall guys reading this, rest assured you're likely to be fine (I had to scoot up in fact to be in a better driving position). I hope to find a car somewhere (my wife has issued a facebook request from local 718 owners too), but my freeze date is quickly approaching (9/7).

Thanks so much for reading!

Same height, and a smidge heavier. I have the fully manual seats in my '18 GTS. Love the way they fit. No issues with wheel interference or anything like that. If you happen to be in Ohio, you can certainly check mine out.

I'm shorter and heavier and probably older.
I find the standard 'sport seat' very uncomfortable. The 'sport seat plus' is a huge improvement, in either 2-way or 18- way configuration.
I do have broad shoulders so the added shoulder support is a big help.

Try both if you can. It's with a longer trip where the discomfort is noticed.
Also note, I'm a bit strange as I find the full bucket seats to be the most comfortable.

To my knowledge, the GTS came with Sport Seats + as the standard equipment, and 18 Way Sport Seats + as the optional extra. As this is Rennlist, I'm sure someone will notify us both if I'm wrong. They are remarkably different (the good kind) than the seats that were in the decently plain Jane Boxster S that I test drove prior to buying my GTS.

I haven’t sat a 992 seat.

The 9[98][12] manual SS+ seats are comparable to the 18-way SS+ seats with side bolsters in their widest setting. Not even close to 18-ways in “munchkin mode.”

I’ve only had the 14- and 18- ways, no 4-ways. My body prefers the 14-ways. 6’2”, thin to medium build. I found the 18-ways pinched me even when the bottom bolsters were set as wide as possible. For long trips, the 14-ways are better for me. This is why you don’t know until you sit in them. My experience is the opposite of Dr. Bill’s above. If the S+ 4-ways are pinching you, maybe you have cause for concern.

However, if I was tracking my car, I would put up with the 18-ways and do the PDK rather than the MT. Lol.

61, 6' tall, 172 lbs, 14 ways. Fine for long trips, around town, etc. Do not hold me firmly on track days no matter how tight I make the lateral supports. I'm half driving, half doing Pilates to hold myself in the seat - especially on tight left handers.

Thanks everyone... a nearby dealer has a 718 CS and GTS with 14-way and 18-way seats. I'm going there this week to sit in both to try and mirror the 4-way SS and SS+ experience.

Question/guidance, to try and imitate the 4-way SS+, should I put the 18-way in their widest bolster setting, for bottom and upper (if there even is a upper option)? Thanks so much again!

Good question - I think you would want to put them in their middle position but really hav no idea. The SA would be a good person to ask.

And yes there are side bolsters on both the seat back and seat bottom.

I tested all four seat types when buying my 2019 CGTS. At that time I was 5'9 155lbs and I couldn't stand seats with too much lumbar support or inadequate padding on seat cushion. I ended up buying the 18 way Sport+ seats, but would have been fine with basic Sport+ 4 way. I found the 4 way seats to be equal to the 18 way in all their widest settings and least amount of lumbar support. The side and bottom bolsters were just fine. I have my 18 way on widest settings and never change them. The bigger issue for me was type of material and ventilated/non-ventilated made a much bigger difference. I found the ventilated leather seats of any type very uncomfortable, probably because at that time I had minimal padding on my backside. I found both RaceTex and Alcantara to be significantly more comfortable.

I find the CGTS sport+ seats on widest lateral support settings to be equivalent to my Audi 2017 18 way comfort seats in their most narrow settings. In other words, outside of track usage you would need to be either very thin or really enjoy being hugged to need the adjustability of the 18 way seats.

I'm 6'2" and 205 pounds with longer legs and a lumbar fusion at age 42. 2-way Sports Plus seats were the most comfy for me. Nice base padding. Wide enough for my thights, hips, and shoulders. Also the cheapest and lightest option.

14-way Sport seats I didn't like at all. Didn't fit the personality of the car at all.

18-way Sport Plus seats were fine in their widest setting. But the base padding wasn't as comfy and were worth the extra cash to me.

GL!

5'8" 155, coupla titanium bits here and there, 14 ways with ventilated leather, and is comfortable. Am an age 75 street driver, as in 3 months on my BGTS, 4200 miles, even tho not my daily driver. Wife also finds the passenger seat very comfortable(much better than e60 M5). Expects and asks for at least 1 multi-hour drive a week.
