FWIW I have Clearplex on my windshield. I had a thumb size rock hit me on Angeles Crest Hwy and got a small chip, but was able to have it resin filled. I think without the Clearplex it would have been a big crack, game over. I'm in Granada Hills and had Clearplex installed by Tyler at American Wrap Co. As far as using wipers they just say don't run them on a dry windshield, which makes sense.

Of course different states and different insurance companies have different policies and state laws.. but in NJ, NJ Manufacturers (the top-rated company in the US) charges very little extra to lower the deductable on comprehensive insurance. Comprehensive covers damage not caused by an collision, fire/theft, and includes windshields. The difference between $50 and $500 is about $20 extra a year per vehicle. Over the years having the low deductable has paid for itself several times over. I had an Izuzu Trooper with a dead flat windshield that would gather rock dings that instantly turned into windshield wide cracks like nothing you ever saw before. Comprehensive in that case covered about 4 windshields for me (1 per 6 months roughly). It covered front-end damage on a BMW 525i caused by a hooved-rat (deer) running into the road immediately in front of my car. About $5000 in repairs - for $50 deductible. It paid for all the windows on the right side of my Cayenne when it was broken into in Oakland CA. And it paid for the new windshield on my Boxster when it got a stone ding right in my line of sight.. I've been their customer for over 50 years now - so I guess the low deductible comp has cost me an extra $1,000 in that time in premiums - but it's paid multiples of that over time. You may want to check what your company offers.

FYI... Just an update on my windshield and the protection I'm going to apply.

Finally got word that it will be happening sometime next week so I'll keep you posted on the process and how the outward visibility may be affected when looking through the windshield.

I would also like to take picture under varying conditions prior to the install and after the install so that we could possibly see the differences.

I also found out that the shop that does all my PPFs will be using the brand Ultrafit for the windshield. There are 3 levels of the film available but I believe he told me he only carries the top 2 levels.

Here's a link to Ultrafit... https://www.ultrafitprotection.com/H...shield_general
