On my previous 991.2, it was very easy using a credit card and popping off the home link cover to access the power and ground; however, on my 718 it won't budge. I also broke the plastic clip on one side while slipping the credit card in there. Got PO'ed and stopped before I do more damage!
Anyone else run into this?
I saw Matt from Obssessed Garage do this from the fuse box underneath the glove box (thought it was on the driver's side only), but I do not want to mess with the A pillar cover due to the air bag being there.
Never mind. I just said F it this morning and used a thicker card and pushed it in harder. What I was doing before is pushing it in and pulling it down. You just need to push it straight in with some bit of effort.
I ran mine directly to the fuse box. I did that in on my 981 and on my Spyder. There is no need to remove the A-pillar cover; you can just tuck the wire behind it. I used a fuse tap to just plug the wire into an unused fuse (that is active only when the car is on), and I found a bolt on the underside of the dash near the fuse box to use as the ground. It was a pretty easy install. On my 981, I ran it to the left fuse box, but on my Spyder, I ran it to the right fuse box. The procedure was the same (straightforward and easy).
I ran wires directly to the fuse boxes in my other two cars as well.
I used the one on the right side (Purple = red and brown = ground)
This is what I did as well on my 718. It worked perfectly

Just a word of caution on the bolded above - be careful that when you tuck the wire that it does not end up crossing on top of the airbag that is behing the cover. I used to always tuck as well on previous cars, but on one car I subsequently took off the a-pillar and found I had inadvertently ran the wire across the airbag.

Good point, but I ran the wire just along the edge, actually more under the door weather stripping rather than the A pillar.
Tried the wire tap today on my 2019 718 GTS but didn't have any luck tapping into the harness. Wondering if I'm using the wrong blue connector. Tapped the purple and brown and the detector made a clicking sound but wouldn't come on. Any help or pics would be appreciated.
FWIW, I've used the Blendmiuht on my 981 with a V1 and I got power from the OBD port by using Valentine 's SAAVY add-on, it plugs in the port and provides power plus muting. Prior cars I always tapped into power from the overhead console. I plan to do the same on my yet-delivered CGTS 4.0.
