Order Cancelled...
The purchase decision has been a challenging one. I have had a lot of different thoughts about the build. Something was not sitting right with my decision to get a well optioned based model Cayman. As such, I cancelled the order today.
And replaced it with a GTS 4.0 with the same options. Sorry for the bait and switch.

Yep, while it was probably an expensive upgrade, long term I think you will be happier... Resale will be significantly better as well.

Good decision, the options on a regular Cayman that come standard on a GTS make the total cost pretty close. Plus a few things not av6at all and the exclusivity of a GT car.

Since around 2010 - 2012, when the GTS moniker became more than just something Porsche did to generate additional sales as a model run was nearing it's end and became a full fledged model designation it's become the smart alternative to taking a base or S and loading it up with options. I get that some people think some of the GTS options are fluff so they refuse to pay for it but in the big picture that's usually misguided.
Something that most people either miss or don't understand is on resale GTS models will always retain a higher percentage of their MSRP. There's a reason for that, It's all around the way Black Book and other guides assign value which drives what cars ultimately sell for at auction and on dealer lots. They are based off base MSRP for a particular model so you have Base, S and GTS. Since options / accessories are added at a much lower value an S which was optioned out to the base GTS MSRP will be worth as much as 20% less after 4 years than a no options GTS with comparable miles and history.
This year I believe the delta is even higher for retained value. Consider a GTS is now a 4.0L NA flat 6, a loaded up S is a turbo flat 4........ Which do you think will be worth more in 5 years?
