Default Winter Wheel set on Boxster?

I'm considering putting a winter wheel set on my Boxster GTS instead of storing it this winter. If you've done it, I'd appreciate your sharing your experiences. (I do the winter wheel swap on my 911 Turbo S, which is all-wheel drive, and it's been great. I'm not getting any younger, and want all the sports car driving I can get while I'm still capable. I don't drive it in the snow, however, just when it's cold and clear.) Thanks in advance.

What kind of temperatures do you get in the winter?

I drive my 718 Cayman year-round (in snow, too). If you're not driving in snow, there's literally nothing to worry about - just get winter tires and you're good.
Even in snow, winter tires make more of a difference than AWD - you just need to be light on throttle when turning. The low-end torque of the turbos causes the 718s to lose grip quite easily.

Typically well below freezing (teens and twenties) for significant periods, with some periods of below zero to single digits. Occasionally it's in the 30s. Last season, I had my 911 out when it was 22 below (it was great!). Again, I'm not so much asking what you advise me to get (although insights are appreciated) as I am asking about what your own experiences of driving a Boxster with winter wheels has actually been.

Thanks, that's exactly the kind of experiential report I was seeking. What you say makes sense, much appreciated.

I have a winter set of 18" for my Cayman GTS that I use during the winter. Originally bought the wheels for my 981S. With the 18"s I don't have to worry about hitting a pot hole, like I would with the 20's.

Makes sense. I'm looking at getting the 19". Not only are they far cheaper than the 20", but they'll serve winter needs better.

My wife has driven her 981 Cayman thru Chicago winters for the past 3 years. Snow tires and never an issue. Go for it!

I use my Cayman GTS year round here in northern Virginia. I switch over to 19 inch winter wheels and have no problems at all. I don't take it out in heavy snow - no clearance but have not had a problem in light snow, slush or low temperatures.

The replies are much appreciated. I'm getting the 19" winter wheel set, and having the wheels powder-coated high-gloss black to go with my yellow and black exterior color scheme. I'll post pics when it's ready.
