Default 718 Boxster spontaneously combusts?

In the Belgian newspapers today:
A guy buys a two year old 718 Boxster with 20k km (12.5k miles), and during the drive home it spontaneously burst into flames

According to the driver, just before the fire started the revs dropped away and his indicators stopped working.
He managed to park the car and get out, just before it started smoking. No one was injured.

The seller (a place selling high-end cars - ferrari, porsche, maserati, aston martin, bentley...) says it is probably a production error.
They already contacted Porsche, and the matter will be investigated... Apparently there had been a similar case in Germany a while back.

So if anyone notices something "off" when driving a 718, make sure to get out of it - quickly

Good thing it's only cosmetic damage......
I thought about putting a Halon fire extinguisher in my 2 year old Boxster, but then wondered where I could spray it if there was an engine fire????

I don’t know about the 981 or 982, but at least on my 987, the right side side “air intake” is actually a cooling vent to the engine. Perhaps one could spray into there?

I think I'd let mine burn to the ground. I'd hate to use an extinguisher to put out an engine fire, and then have insurance/Porsche say, "we can fix that!, no problem"

We have a winner.

This is the first I've heard of this happening.

Passenger compartment to protect you while you get out. That is the only thing that matters if your car catches on fire.

Yes there have been reports of cigarettes entering the intake tract due to the intake scoop being so pronounced and being able to catch lit cigarettes.

Wasn't there a recall on this?

Turns out the "buyer" hadn't bought the car yet, he was just taking a test drive.
Lucky for him
