Default Managed to drift a GTS today

Took a 718 CGTS out for a spin at PEC LA today. (Literally). Spent a bunch of time on the low-friction skidpad and even managed to hold a decent drift for about 5 seconds at a time, before my instinct would kick in and I'd get 'er going straight again. I found it extremely challenging to judge how much throttle input was needed...too little, and we'd come out of the drift. Too much, and we'd spin. Obviously I'm never going to try this on public roads with my own cars, but it was fun nonetheless.

It was my second time at PEC but I have to say my HPDE event was vastly more educational and useful. Was kind of disappointed in the PEC track and overall experience. But the 10 minutes on the pad was quite fun.

What was your maximum kick plate speed (PSM off, obviously...)?

I just saw this --^

What was disappointing about it?

I did two sessions at PEC Atlanta (718 and 718GTS) in late June. My experience was the opposite of yours: I found it to have the highest ratio of learning-to-dollar I've encountered and I have done multiple professional driving schools and many dozens of track days over the years.

I've done it five times now at PEC-ATL.
718
981 BS
981 CS
991.1 C2S
991.2 C2S

I thought it was awesome. Every time I fly through ATL, I leave enough time to hop over to PCNA and grab a car for 90 minutes. Great fun.

I've gotten quite good at the Kick plate. 30 mph with PSM off.

Bragger! LOL. Practice makes perfect.

My instructor said that he was 50/50 at 30 mph.

I was able to do 20-21 MPH. Never at ~24-25. I accidentally went through the gate at 30 once and spun like a top the whole length of the course.

In my defense, I made the mistake of doing a morning 90 minute session and then another 90 minutes after lunch. I'm not in 'shape' mentally for 3 hours of intense driving. The last 20 minutes when I was trying to 'beat' the kick-plate I was 'done'-tired.

I actually found it more difficult to control the mid-engine cars on the kick plate. Once they start rotating, they spin like a top. No problem with the 911.

Physics. Low moment of polar inertia.

Add-in a giant turbo on a small motor (718 base) making it easy spin on-boost but very difficult to stay in the drifting 'sweet spot.'

With both of my sessions at PEC LA, I told the instructors I was going to do some HPDE, so they treated the track time like an HPDE. I got the tires pretty warm
