For me I think I will wait for the 992 GT3, but I want to know who is trading his car.

I have a GTS and was hoping for the GT3 motor. Pretty disappointed as I don't see a big difference between the 981 and the 718 versions.

Still undecided but have a slot at the dealer.

I'm another one keeping the GTS for now. Maybe if a GT4 touring version comes out, I'll rethink it, depending on the actual specs.. For now I am keeping the low end torque, more compliant ride and no wing over the GT4 benefits of more track focused suspension and engine sound. My car is 70% AutoX/HPDE and 30% tooling around. I've put a couple 1000 mile road trips on my GTS and pretty sure I would enjoy that aspect less in the 718 GT4.

I won't be trading my S, which has PTV,SPASM, and SC. Mine is a "daily" driver -I work from home- and I only do 2 HPDE events a year. I'll take my 309 at 1900, instead of 5000.

I'm trading my GTS. I love it, but I want something a little more track focused and can't stomach the step up to a GT3. I'm just waiting for the PDK to be available in the GT4.

I doubt I will be trading my GTS. My driveway is too steep and in Hill Country there are simply too many very steep entrances from the road to shopping centers. If I lived in Ohio or Oklahoma I'd already have the 981 GT4.

Ohio here.
While yes, it's very flat and not much hills, the roads are just as much a factor as steep entrances:
- potholes
- bumps
- poor pothole patches
- poorly done driveways that weren't smoothed after repaving a surface
- manhole covers that are way too recessed into the street

Yesterday, I headed out to the dealer to discuss the 718 GT4/GTS. I pretty much made up my mind I wasn't going to trade my 718CGTS for a GT4 for the reasons I stated previously. However, in the back on my mind i still harbored the possibility of a Spyder. I have never found the humps to be attractive. That has been a big hurdle for me when thinking about a Spyder. No matter how much people want to talk about engine, gear boxes....there is no doubt that for most of us aesthetics play a huge role. In fact I would argue most people buy with there heart/eyes and then fill in all the blanks to justify the purchase.

I had driven a Spyder ( older gen) before but it was a while. So I went for a test drive in a 981 Spyder they had on the lot. The visibility, with the top on, didn't bother me nearly as much as I thought it would. In fact, It bothers me less than with my Macan. Ride wasn't nearly as smooth as it is with my GTS but that is to be expected. However, it would be clearly fine for me since this would primarily be a grocery getter vs my GTS is a AutoX/HPDE car.

But here is that part that really killed me...I think the turbo has spoiled me so much. The car just didn't feel lively. The long gearing means that on the street, you are mostly in first or second. You're in the sweet spot regarding torque in 2nd when doing maybe 50-60 mph, IIRC. There just wasn't that kick in the pants you get from the angry, snarling turbo and I realized I just needed that. I just felt on the street there was no where to go with the Spyder. Backroad driving/Canyon carving felt out of place with the torque gearing issue. Highway driving is just mediocre because it is one long straight and never much of a fan of a ragtop on the highway anyway.

So now I am over the visibility issue, the fickle top issue, mundane color issue and I am stuck with the "kick in the pants" issue.

That said, I just couldn't find a place in my heart no matter how much I try. It's not the type of car i would sit staring at in my garage thinking what a beautiful piece of machinery it is. I think that is where I differ from most. Take that away and I found the car not exciting enough for a weekend driver. It's starting to drive me crazy looking for the right convertible MT...the options are so few.

( I still have my 987BS so I know what slow feels like. Not always a problem but somehow I just had built up expectations of the Spyder.)

PS. I did like the steering rack of the 981 Spyder...hmm...

Keeping my GTS, I looked at the GT4 and the specs didn't make me excited. Maybe if I didn't have a GT3 also, I would think different.

I won't be upgrading to the 4.0L car until it is offered with a power top and/or ventilated seats. Then sign me up.

I’m keeping my 718 gts for now. Love it for street driving. Haven’t been on track yet but hoping for similar feelings there. Gt4 with no real weight benefit and lack of improvement of low end power/torque doesn’t really make me want to change cars. I have to admit I underrated the 718 gts quite a bit but now I realize it’s going to take a lot to get me out of this car...

Dude. Get out there. Amazing car for autocross and track. My 981 GTS is stupid great at both. Now add the 718's low end torque. Bonkers.

GTS 911 and Cayman are more comfortable daily use cars than GT3 and GT4. However, there is something very special with the manual transmission version of the GT3 and GT4 that can’t be had with the GTS models.

My plan is to let my 991.2 GTS go for a GT4 if I am fortunate enough to do so.

I was in the dealer the other day, and they of course were trying to sell me a new car. I asked what trade value they would give me for my 2018 718 Cayman GTS with 8k miles ($91k sticker). They offered me $64k. I was shocked. So shocked that I took it to CarMax and Texas Auto Direct and they were $64k and $63k as well.

High depreciation on these GTS's may further dissuade people from trading up to the new GT4.

I have a 718 GTS, it’s a rocket on the track...obviously not as quick as my RS, but it’s shocking. People who complain non-stop about the 4 banger havnt driven one at speed, it’s so quick. I often track mine, always passing GT4s (as long as on street tires) because they simply can’t hang with how quick this 718 is coming out of turns. I would not be surprised if back to back tests of GT4 and 718 GTS on same tires shows that 718 is quicker, especially with PDK.
