Why are the Goodyear tires so awful?
Im just wondering if anyone else feels the same way about the Goodyear tires, 8K miles on a 2017 Cayman S and honestly I've had enough, terrible noise tires and awful in the rain.
Just overall terrible tires, why would Porsche even consider this over the Pilot super sport?

Not sure why they used Goodyear on a Cayman S. I have Pilot Sport on my 2019 CGTS.

I had Pirellis on my 981S and couldn't wait to replace them with Michelin PS 4S. I haven't found any tire that's superior to PS 4S, and it puzzles me that they aren't OEM on all Porsches.

What tire pressure settings are yaw’ll, that hate your tires so much, using?
Standard? Comfort? Full or Partial Load?

I've got Goodyears on 20" wheels. Seem pretty good to me. I can't really speak to to road noise, because I'm a dedicated top-down guy. They seem fine in the rain, although that's highway driving; I'm not going to slide this car around turns in the rain. I'll get 10,000 miles out of them. If another tire gives me better dry traction, I don't know how much I'll be able to use it, having pulled 1.2X turns on the street with the Goodyears.
I will try the Michelins next, and am preparing to be completely underwhelmed. In the sport touring motorcycle world, it's Pilot Roads, Pilot Roads, Pilot Roads. I've tried Pilot Roads for three generations on three different motorcycles, and went from a mild dislike of their dynamic behavior to straight up fear. The good news is they gave the best mileage, so I was stuck with tires that I hated for the most time.
By the way, I asked my instructor at PEC Atlanta what his favorite tire was on the 718, and he said the Pirellis.
I'll be happy if the Michelins are half as much better as everyone says, and not just some talisman. Or, I'll settle for no worse, and better mileage.

What are the DOT code dates on the 8,000 mile Goodyears?

It comes down to luck. Some cars come on PS4s, and some cars come on Eagle F1s. The F1's will last longer however the PS4s are just better in every other category, especially grip both in rain and dry

Three Wheelin'
Was test driving a 2017 718 Boxster that the dealer had CPO'd and installed a new set of...Goodyear tires!
Did a 'brake check' on a clear road and the car jumped and slid all over. Salesman said they have to put on what was original to qualify for the CPO.....
May have to keep looking.

Wow. Sounds like you're lucky to be alive. Jumped?
I've broken the back end loose and locked up the front going down hill through some of the incredibly tightly curved roads around here. The combination of ABS, PSM, PTV, LSD and my inputs made these consistently tame events. I've launched the car at almost 1g and braked it at over 0.9g, uneventfully, and feeling perfectly in control.
And why do we think the Goodyears give better mileage than the Michelins? Tirerack gives the Michelins a 8.5 for mileage vs a 6.9 for the Goodyears, with a UTQG of 300 vs 240 for the Goodyears.

I have had Good Year, Pirelli and Michelins....Frankly the Goodyear tires were better than the Pirellis IMO but like the Michelins on my new CGTS

I can't speak to the Goodyears, but I prefer the RE980AS on my 911 over the P Zero. Even in the summer. The P Zeros are garbage.

Porsche always likes to have a minimum of two different tire suppliers for each model - reduces problems if there is an issue with one of them (i.e. factory burns down or other big disturbance).

So my 19 718 CS came with the eagle f1s. and frankly they're FINE. I had pillot super sports on my previous car, a caddy atsv, and they were exceptional. I was hoping for 4Ss on the cayman. . .having driven 4500 miles of aggressive driving including 4 track days, my assessment of the eagles are that they have good grip, wet and dry, but they squeal a lot. . .makes it a little hard to judge the limit because the tires are screeching and you mentally don't want to push harder. I took it on a wet skid pad and had TROUBLE breaking the back end loose. . .and the wear is excellent so far. . .BUT, when they wear out i'm getting 4Ss.

Good Years
PS4S
My 2016 CGTS came with Good Years and the only issue i had with them was road noise after about 15k miles of use. The grip was excellent as I normally achieved over 1.3 G’s. Best performance came at 38 PSI hot.
After almost 18K miles I replaced them with PS4S and they ride quieter and they do handle road imperfections better than the Good Years. Grip on The Michelin’s is excellent.
if for some reason Michelins became unavailable I’d have no problem going back to Good Years.
