I found the instant torque of the turbo four far more likable than the NA flat six. I did drive a 2016 GTS before I bought the 2018 GTS and had no regret buying the 718. The Cayman GTS has the same 0-60 time as my ZL1 and Z51. Again, I have no regrets. I do not think you will either.
As a former long time GM performance guy, it's very interesting to read this. The past few years I've owned Porsches (2 Cayenne Turbos & Macan GTS), and have recently been looking at 718s. I recently test drove a 718 GTS at my dealer and was quite impressed (and surprised)! I've not yet driven a base or an S but will soon. I'm expecting they'll pale a bit compared to the GTS, but I suspect they'll be entertaining as well. Again I appreciate this posting of yours, very relevant to me.

I have 19 BS manual w all Performance goodies of the GTS. No alcantara, and 19in wheels. 15hp less did not seem noticeable to me in manuals. I can’t go a week without driving it. The handling is unbelievable. I daily my BS so I have sport tech seats.

Drive the S and the base. All are great cars.

I've driven a C6 Vette and a 2017 Camaro. Both felt really large to me and the Camaro had horrible sight lines. The Cayman just feels like it shrinks around me and the way the car rotates with the mid-engine layout is phenomenal. My performance cars the last 20 years have been high revving and/or boosted Japanese 4-bangers, so I'm perfectly happy with a turbo 4 in the Cayman. Buddy of mine has a 997 911 and I honestly don't like how the flat-6 sounds in it. The only 911 I've liked the sound of is the GT3.

Same here! SC, PTV, and SPASM. I love the 19" wheels, even more so when I have to clean them. The black Carrera's on my 991 S were a royal pain to get the tight spots in the spokes completely clean. Mine is a PDK, and I did not notice the power difference between it and the GTS I drove.

Just a little update, I took delivery today. I decided to put PPF on the whole car. Unfortunately the shop I deal with for the PPF told me they will install it on the headlights because according to them Porsche headlight are sensitive and the coating might came off when they remove it.

Anyone heard about this before? I might ask another shop ( Xpel dealer) and see what they will say.
Another thing my SA told me the car doesn't need break-in period ( which is strange since the car have 310KM on the odometer) , where can I find more information about this point ?

Seems that dealer is up to a lot of "F##kery" , last i checked in the dealership, that car showed 1k+ km's and had dimming mirrors, unless of course they had 2 carmine's GTS sitting around for testing. does yours have the red gauge cluster? if not then dont worry about it, as for the PPF on the headlights, these things get really hot really fast which may cause discoloration or warping on your car, your wrapper should not cover the headlights unless uf you want the specialised Xpel headlight covers. In all fairness just enjoy your new ride and dont worry about it.

I think you meant to say "they will NOT install in on the headlights"...

Yes, PPF is not supposed to go on the headlights, it might delaminate the outer coating. However some have had no issues. There are threads about it.

Headlight Delamination - How to avoid

For your break in, I would check with your owners manual (that paperback book- like thing in the glove box ). It actually varies from region to region. In the US/Canada, in addition to the standard and reasonable don't lug engine, avoid short drives and constant speed, let the oil temp get to operating temperature before spirited driving, there is the dreaded keep RPMs below 4000 for the first 2000 miles. Many heated discussions about this, just search break in rennlist or planet 9. Be careful about anything the SA tells you, the dealership will be happy to charge you for repairs down the line.

Before writing here about the break in I firstly checked the owner manual and there was no single mention about this subject. I think I will follow your instruction as I checked couple of threads and they all have almost the same instructions.
Regarding the headlight I decided not to install anything now. I live in Bahrain and the temperature reach 120 F these days and I don't want any problems with the headlights.
As you said the SAs usually filled with BS.
Thanks for your input.

In my 718 owner manual it is on one of the first few pages, the first section "Safety and Driving Pleasure", under "Running in the Vehicle". It wasn't where I expected it. In case you find it, I'd be curious to know if they mention the 4000 RPM, in mine it says "avoid high engine speeds of4000 RPM or more. Drive at low engine speeds when the engine is cold". It's pretty hard to keep under 4000 when moving from 1st to 2nd gear...

Actually after checking the manual again I was able to find the instructions.

Ah, thanks! You've just shortened my break in period by 2000 - 1865 = 135 miles!

I'm getting a little looser with the 4000 RPM limit now that I'm past 600 miles, going up occasionally to 5000. After all it says "avoid" not "never". To me it doesn't make sense to do 2000 miles in break in never going above 4000 RPM and then suddenly hammering the engine to red line, IMHO should be a gradual build up.
