It sounds like a turbocharged four.... Porsche put the sound device in (disconnected mine) as they anticipated those that appreciate sound over performance and their whiney crap...I remember when Jacky Ickx and Jochen Mass refused to drive the 935 Porsche in '76 because it sounded like a turbo and not a normally aspirated flat six......yeah, that's the ticket....

Pardon my ignorance, but are the sound symposer and Soundaktor mutually exclusive? I have a 2020 718 Spyder which according to my understanding has the sound symposer but not Soundaktor. Am
I correct about this? I have been following with great interest the thread on removing/deactivating the sound symposer, as the "enhanced" direct injector noise irks me. Not being a tech expert I would love to be able to have a shop remove the sound symposer for me. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. I am in Hilton Head Island, SC.

Thanks for this: I had thought my 2019 GTS was not equipped with the Soundaktor, but after reading this thread I was enlightened.
Removed the 7.5A fuse and did some light driveway revving, and already can tell the difference: It's almost exactly the same result as a MK-7 GTI I had for a few years.
I'd describe the soundaktor as a more "aggressive" tone, but not really better, almost thrashy noise added. Without it it's just the natural engine/exhaust noises which I much prefer.
I just wish I'd known about this before my 2k+ mile road trip back from the dealership.
Thanks to everyone who added info/input on this thread, I didn't think it would be possible, but I can somehow enjoy my Boxster even more now!

With the 718 turbo soundaktor fuse out does the sound still change on the outside exhaust when switching between normal, sport and sport plus modes?

The Soundaktor has NOTHING to do with the outside noise. It's just fake cabin noise. So the answer is NO. However, sport mode changes how it sounds outside, adding pops and farts on deceleration. Sport and sport+ also turn PSE (aka the exhaust valve -there's only one on 718s, vs 2 on 981s) ON... BUT you can turn it off with the console button, if you prefer. Unfortunately, the valve is a cheapo vacuum one, so it's either open or closed (no in-between, like with electric valves). Finally, the valves behave differently on 718s than 981s. Apparently they open initially, then closed at certain rpm (3K,I think), and open again like above 4.5K. So kind of sucks. You need a controller to change that, which requires removing the engine cover to install. Now, I don't know if it's the same for ALL 718s, or the turbo 4s are different than the 4.0s. Hopefully somebody else can confirm that. Hope this helps.
