In the just short of a year I've been visiting 718 forums (since ordering mine) the 718Forum has grown tremendously while here and Planet9 are close to dead about this model.

It's an open forum. People are going to share opinions. If one gets too upset over divergent opinions, they probably should avoid the Internet.

I seem to be in a posting mood this morning. As an owner of the oldest Cayman model, 987.1, I read this forum and the Cayman forum to glean any pertinent info on my particular car. The distribution of posts is likely to be largely a function of model sales and sheer numbers. Hence there are relatively fewer posts about my era car and about 718s. To be honest, I haven't perceived any "hate" on the 718 other than a preference for the older model. Same thing applies to 987.1....I had a lot of folks on P9 and Rennlist posting "congrats, but you shoulda bought a 987.2/991, etc." To be honest, it does seem that the underlying and untended message is that "you made a wrong decision" not understanding my particular motivation. It would probably be better to have a dedicated 4 cylinder forum, but I think the volume will increase as cars get off-lease and/or out of warranty and questions arise.

True. But there's nothing wrong with a little civility.

I think the lack of civility on RL is overblown. But for a few aholes that take things way too far, most of the angst simply revolves around one person getting butthurt because someone else doesn't love their car. Anytime there's a critical comment leveled about any of these cars, someone gets offended and retorts that it's just envy. Maybe it's just that some people have different opinions? Maybe if people would just learn to accept the fact that different people have different tastes and perspectives and stop trying to correct every perceived slight, things on here would seem more pleasant. Seems to me that everyone is just looking for a reason to get offended these days and start a debate.

^This. I’ve never driven a Porsche I didn’t think was fantastic, and I’ve been driving them for 30 years. While I prefer the NA 6, I’m sure I’d love a 718 if I ever owned one.

RL is supposed to be fun. Sure everyone is entitled to their opinions but in the end the constant grinding on the 718 isn't fun for those people who just spent a lot of $$$ on one. Ultimately the 981/718 platforms aren't that different, I think it would be nice to have more 718 owners on the forum.

Some of the 911 guys seem to hate my spyder. Just like they hated my 914-6 GT. When I was young and had a 4 cylinder 914 they hated that too. Screw them. If rear engine was a good design, all the amazing cars would have that. It takes an awful lot of good engineering to make a bad design work well.

My 718GTS Boxster is due to arrive in a few weeks. This is my fifth Porsche (09 Boxster, 12 Cayman R, 15 991 GT3 and 16 991 GT3 RS).

I would really appreciate a 718 Forum.

I've had all of them. Worthless, can't stand the brand. I'm buying a Miata.

On second thought.....

I’d certainly welcome a 718 subforum just for the sake of finding relevant info, but I’m not alienated by others’ opinions, because I don’t go on the internet to debate or validate my feelings and findings about cars. Cars are subjective. Dissent is inevitable. Resistance is futile. The internet is a mean, bad, and dirty place except when it agrees with me. Then, double rainbows and extra likes.

But dear Mods, if a 718/982 subforum is within your bandwidth, I second the request.

Part of the problem is the validation. I’ve seen multiple posts where someone asks an opinion between the 718 and 981. What’s funny is that many who post the question have already made up their mind regarding their purchase so you inevitably get a group fo 981 owners that will opine that their cars are better than the 718 and vice versa.

Mark my words, 8 years from now we’ll have someone inquiring if getting an electric Boxster is better than the outgoing 4 cylinder and those 718 owners are going to argue that the loss of the combustion engine is a major detractor. Change inevitably brings differeng opinions.

A good example, today I brought my Spyder to get smogged and the owner of the smog place is a Porsche nut but his comment to me when I was leaving is that “the Boxster is nice but I really prefer the 911”. Mind you he knows I have a 911 but I said I understand the opinion and I know many feel the same. He acknowledged that the Boxster handles and drives better than the 911 but there’s something about the 911 that he prefers. I’m not one to argue a mans opinion and taste, personally I think we are all entitle to it.

Stop worrying about what others think and start enjoying the drive.
