I just ordered 2 sets of MM from www.rockauto.com for $18 each.
What a great price.

ok.... I've read lots of the previous posts on the mm's available. I know the Anchor mounts are popular. $18 each sounds like a pretty incredible price for a hydraulic mount! The RockAuto web site's description of the part says "4 wheel drive hydraulic mount". So is this the Ford Truck version that you have to add washers to? The ones at Pep Boys are are $100/pair & are hydraulic; Carl's solid version is $105/pair including new hardware. Just wondering the opinions of these three as to what everyone's experienced so far? Yet to read anyone not loving them with whatever version they used. I know whatever version I use it will be a great improvement based on everyone's testamonies.

In the previous post about the Pep Boys version, several mentioned that the PB version looks more "substantial" than the Anchor version. Roger, you also mentioned something about also having to "remove one of the extra pins"?? Can you elaborate? Which version needs an extra pin removed?? I know with everything else being equal, in theory, the hydraulic ones should be better than solid. I am leaning towards Carl's version simply because I trust him & his background with 928's. If he sells them then surely they have to be a quality product that will work well with minimal potential problems. I also havent heard anyone say that you have to alter his version in any way, is that correct?

I plan to have my mm's done soon. I know I will have my mechanic do the work because of my lack of experience, along with the time, work & hassle involved. He told me this week if I get the mounts, he'll do the work for $500. I can definately live with that. He told me to make sure whatever mm's I get that they are pretty much a direct replacement, or what he called a "bolt on" application. I know that the Ford Truck mm's require washers. Do all three versions need some kind of alteration or addition to fit properly? I was hoping to avoid using one that you have to add washers or remove pins if possible. I dont want my mechanic giving me any static about him having to "make them fit", even if its just adding washers. He's fine with using an aftermarket product for me to save $$. Its just his preference is to use the Porsche version to ensure he doesnt run into any problems or has to make any alterations. I plan to have him also do the oil pan gasket at the same time.

Didnt mean to take this into a question asking session, but I was just thinking about posting a thread with these questions the day before this thread came up.

THANKS!

I agree with Mel.

I know we all want to save some pancakes on the motor mount install since the labor rate for this job is huge.
I recently purchased the semi-solid mounts from 928 Motorsports. ~$90.00 for the pair. These units include high quality hardware and need nothing extra.
Also you gain the performance advantage of the semi-solid material.
They transformed my cars ride. Well worth the extra $40.00 smackers IMO.
Check out Carl's web site.

No disrespect to Carl but aren't his Anchor Mounts. They sure look the same.
Carl supplies zinc plated hardware whereas we use SS grade 8 hardware with nylon locking inserts.
I would not recommend using nuts that are not nylock.
The Anchor 2698 is solid. I would only recommend the solid as does Carl.
I have now done (with help) about 8 cars with the Anchor 2698 with total success.
On my GTS I did not use extra washers. On my 89 I did - why just because.
The US made Anchor mounts are the ones you need. Why because they are exactly what you want without any extra work not because the Indian quality is not good.
You ones made in India - same part number - same supplier - look the same - For some strange reason they have an extra pin on one end. It would be very easy to grind off the pin.
As for Indian quality - I have worked closely with Indian manufactures and visited their facilities on many occasions - I found there quality as good as if not better than the same items manufactured in the USA and the UK.
Of all the MM I have ordered from RockAuto I have never had anything other than USA made MM.
If I received Indian manufactured MM I would grind off the pin and use them.
We will see with the next delivery.
I prefer the solid MM as there is no chance of leakage and failure as per the original and very expensive Porsche units.
We have converted in the DFW area 4 GTS's and 4 S4's with no complaints so far just ecstatic reviews.
Each to there own - just pointing out that you can buy the same thing from Rockauto for $18.
It is great that you can buy the same thing or something very similar from Carl.

I've been trying to decide whether to go with the solid or hydraulic MMs. Compared the the hydraulic mounts, the solid mounts still smooth out the engine vibration about the same? Or is this just compared to failed hydraulics vs newly installed solids?
