Default 356 hubcap value

Hi guys,

Not quite a technical question, but I figured this was a good place to ask...I was browsing a local antique market and found a set of 356 hubcaps. They are chrome with black center. Two are in great condition, one has a nick in the black center, and the last one is pretty banged up in the center. I didn't get a picture, but I could go back next week. What do you think they are worth, and are there distinctive marks or anything else I should look for on them?

Thanks in advance!

Alex

Here is what someone is selling on 356.com for $100.00

"A patinaesque set of hubcaps, has all the wear and tear you would expect for 40 odd year caps. One is missing the crest, perfect set for a original look C."

Thx, pdxjim. The guy was asking 135. Overall, they look like they are in great condition. I hope to acquire a 356 someday, but until then, I'm gonna try and get these hubcaps for garage art!

I was going to say they would look amazing as garage art if nothing else. You will have to post some pictures when you get them hung up

Dates. There is a date stamped on the inside of the hubcap. Obviously the earlier dates are worth more. The baby moon ones are for cars without disc brakes. The flat ones are for cars with disc brakes

I picked up a perfect disc brake cap set for 80 dollars a few weeks back. I hung one on the wall of my office, and the other three are stored. One day I'll pick up a C or a 912 to stick them on.

So, I got the hubcaps for $85. I'm guessing they are reproductions because there is no stamp on the back of them. They are worth the money to me as wall art alone, so I'm still happy with the buy I've attached a picture of the front and back. What do you guys think...reproductions?

The date stamp is on the lip, along with "Lemmerz", the manufacturer. It is a little hard to see. Later (after the end of production) factory caps and reproductions don't have any stamps.

Original hubcaps are much heavier than the originals
