I was just browsing though my CD manuals and saw this.
Ive always wondered what the heck that thing was!

Any one ever use it...know how...or where to get the fitting?
my guess is the Aeroquip hose guy in town would perhaps have the fitting

I know one trial fill through it on '87 S4. Worked fine. Don't know exacly what kind of fitting was used.

That interesting. I was looking at Tom F. auto on the lift at the frenzy and wondered what that was for, just never looked it up!

I am constantly amaed at how much about our cars remains unknown. I suspect that the damn things are so complicated, these things are discivered and forgotten and rediscovered and so-on. Think of all the bazillions of procedures.

I just had the transaxle and the tranny ou not to long ago and it is nicely done by the factory. The ATF is filled into the ATF cooler return line. Inside the filler sits a small steel ball and acts as a one way check valve. Look it up in PET...

I second what Wally says, every now and then i will just sit down and browse through section and Model years. Really amazing all the info there...and more so that Jim was able to compile it all

you cant own a 928 with out them IMHO.

Ive had a slow drip from my converter seal since ive had the car and now and then have to top up the tranny fluid. I get tired of that filler cap and resivour So this was a good find for me...by chance as well, i wasnt looking for it!

With a fitting and a power bleeder it should make life easier.

As great Jim's CD's are I wish they would contain similar yearly documents for ROW cars as well. One or two in them now gives only glimpse of what else there is to learn. It would be especially useful on '84-86 S with LH-Jetronic injection.

If any ROW owner has any of the info on those cars, I'm sure that Jim would be happy to add it to the next version of the CDs - he has updated the set several times.

Problem is finding those documents. AFAIK only USA and maybe UK has law that will require manufacturers to sell them outside dealer network. German language WSM has been available from German dealers though. Rumoured UK WSM scan from Jim would be great too.

Ew, I'm going to have get the car up on the lift and look at that. So, all we need is an adapter that threads on and a mating hose and pump? Cool!

I've read all the tech books on Jim's CDs and don't recall this. Part of Wall's yearly 928 maintenance should be re-reading all the service info by years pubs!

Well, I do have a few more manuals for a next version but nothing of much import. One nice addition is a clean copy of the electrical training manual. The one on the current cd version is poor quality and the next update will have one that's much better. Since we're up to around 500 sets, I'd like to make this next (and likely last update) as full as possible, so I'm looking for material. One thought I've had is to try to collect (with owner's permission of course) some of the excellent writeups people have done on various procedures..a good example would be John Pirtle's timing belt procedure. Of course, most of this is still web-accessible, but it might be useful to collect some of this in one place.

I have found very few tech manuals on the ROW cars. There are one or two on the current set, IIRC on the LH for 84-86. Not sure if many more exist. I do have a lead I need to follow-up on for an englush language ROW FWSM. If that doesn't pan out, then John Speake may have one I can use to see what the differences are and if they justify another cd or perhaps an update to the USA version. Now that golf season is about over, I'll have a great deal more time on my hands and hope to make more progress.

I'm glad the tech cds have been useful and while I'll gladly take credit for 'producing' them, it's the folks on the list who were willing to share these that made the project possible in the first place. If anyone does happen to have any ROW manuals, please let me know.
